“Good suggestions from the hotel reception and information on Switzerland”
Reviewed 20 July 2014

Hotel adonis is about 15 mins walk from the railway station (or you can call hotel taxi for 5 CHF per person, there is a phone booth at railway station from which you can call any hotel in Zermatt for free of charge and ask them for taxi or hotel directions).
The hotel owner was interesting lady and I discussed with her a lot about things at Switzerland. She asked us for the plan in the afternoon and guided us to spend time at Zermatt. She suggested to goto gornergrat to have view of matternhorn, and also gave a tip to sit on right hand side in the train to get good scenic views :-)

One interesting point was that in their breakfast they had separate kettle kept with "Drinking Water" which I liked the most, since most of the Asians like to have water with breakfast :-)

My two sisters and I loved our bright, cheerful room with a balcony overlooking the pretty garden (prepared with children in mind) with a view of the mountains. The hotel isn't central, but then nothing in Zermatt is far away, and it is close to the cable car and restaurants. Breakfast was very tasty. It is a lovely village and the Matterhorn is breathtaking. Another benefit is the no cars in the village policy. Quaint little taxis take their place, but beware, they take no prisoners. We saw one tourist actually nudged out of the way.

Room Tip: Just ask for a view of The Mountain.

Dear Lyndel50
Thanks a lot for having taken the time to write us a review. We are happy to learn that you enjoyed your stay not only in the Adonis but over all in Zermatt. Regarding the taxis you may be assured the the community of Zermatt knows about the driving style of some of our taxis and they are trying very had to fight this problem. not always successfully.
We know you came from very far and probably your are not visiting Europe every year , but should you one day decide to come back to Zermatt we would be thirlled to have you back as our guests. Take care !

I stayed here, recently, for one night, in a family group. My room was clean, comfortable, but it was annoying to find the water wouldn't stay in the bath (faulty seal on plug?) and the batteries in the safe were dead. The receptionist took careful note, the following morning, but regular checking of rooms could eliminate these annoyances. Breakfast was varied and plentiful, though dried fruit would benefit from soaking beforehand. We walked (with suitcases) from the train station... perfectly doable.. and enjoyed the hotel's proximity to the town centre on foot, too. The absence of tea / coffee making facilities needs to be balanced against price, but all in all, an enjoyable stay.

Dear Caroline
Thanks for having stayed in our property. We are very sorry for the inconvenience you had with the bath and the safe. In fact the plug in the bath does not have a wrong seal it is just the srew which probably was not fully tighened. We will definetely improve the room checking.
Regarding the dry fruits we just would like to point out that Zermatt has a very very dry climate and we try to avoid to soak the fruits in water in order to avoid any loss of flavour.
A coffee and teak maker is not provied in our Hotel rating and therefor of course not calculated in our prices.
We wish you all the best.

This is one charming hotel. It's design is vintage and cosy with a fireplace in the hall and for such a small place, it has a lift!
Our room was just large enough for both suitcases to be fully opened and had a little balcony. Breakfast included was really lovely. We could request for eggs (scrambled, fried or soft boiled) and staff was more than friendly.

Location is about 15 minutes walk from train station with a little uphill at the end.
Note that swiss pass does not cover buses in Zermatt and it costs about 3.50fr to get to the hotel per pax from train station.

Hotel Adonis is a very small but cozy hotel though little away from the city centre and railway station (10 mins Walk) but very close to Matterhorn, we really enjoyed the stay, bathrooms are too small but well equipped shower was very relaxing, Balcony in the room with fantastic view is superb! Breakfast spread needs to be improved it is very minimal.
Staff are very friendly and my special thanks to "Michele" such a wonderful and helpful person I wish her all the best. I would suggest the hotel management to look into the buffet breakfast and provide a tea/coffee maker in every room.
Overall our stay was memorable one I really will cherish!

Room Tip: All the rooms are equally good

Dear Manjudi
Thank you very much for your nice comment and thanks for having taken the time to valuate our property. We are glad to learn that you enjoyed the stay in the Adonis. Regarding the spreads for breakfast we would have appreciated to get a more precise explanation of what you were missing. We serve 4 different spreads, copious variation of meet and cheese, fresh vegetable, dry vegetable, fresh fruits, dried fruits, cereals in all kinds, seeds and so on. All type of eggs freshly prepaired on request served on a hot plate. But we would gladly improve our breakfast if we know what more should be offered. In our Hotel rating is a coffee or tea maker not provided.
We wish you all the best and we thank you for having stayed in the Adonis

We stayed here for 6 nights recently and it was a fantastic experience! The staff were incredibly friendly and really helpful with all of our needs (from having our room ready early when we arrived early, to helping with our ski hire/lift passes). The rooms were wonderful - clean, spacious and comfortable - and the included buffet breakfast was spectacularly filling (just what you want before a day of skiing!). The location was fantastic - about a 4 minute walk from the ski lifts (and that's 4 mins wearing ski boots!), the view from our balcony was quite lovely, and the hotel had spa and sauna services. The hotel has a small bus that will pick you up and drop you off at the train station for free, which is extremely convenient as it is a bit of a walk from the train station. However the stand out feature of this hotel is how incredibly cheap it was whilst not compromising any level of quality or comfort for guests. We did a lot of research before deciding to snap up a room in this hotel and it was at least 50% cheaper than anywhere else we looked!! For the price we paid (in Zermatt of all places) I was honestly not expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised! This was a lovely little hidden gem and I would highly recommend it to anyone travelling to this beautiful skiing village.

A nice hotel, friendly and helpful staff, well located in Zermatt.

Single rooms are small - but it was fine for what we needed on this trip.

Breakfast is continental buffet style, enough to get you going for the day.

Dear Mr. Cunning
Thank you very much for having taken time to write us a review. We are very happy to know that you appreciated our service and our property. The single room you had we are selling as economy rooms being aware that these rooms are not very spacious. Our other standard single rooms are double bedrooms for single use and they have balconies. But they have a higher price.
We would be thrilled to see you some time back in the Adonis. Take good care of you
