We visited Zermatt last week and on our last morning, wanted a simple lunch in the town before our train left. We went into Walliserkanne where the restaurant manager very grudgingly allowed us in ( the restaurant was far from full) and was then most put out that we politely asked to sit at a vacant table by the window rather than deep in the ( rather dark) restaurant. I tried to attract a waiter to obtain menus- we'd been sitting at the table for over 5 minutes by this time, being ignored. He replied with a very sarcastic " good morning madam" and then walked off again. A further 5 minutes elapsed with no menus so I got up and took some myself- still no reaction. By this time, 2 further families had come in and all been welcomed and served. At this point we walked out.
I have no idea what their problem was but I have never experienced such blatant rudeness. Their restaurant is dark and unwelcoming and their staff rude and ungracious. Don't touch it with a bargepole.
