“Good hotel - excellent Spa”
Reviewed 1 July 2013

The location of the hotel is amazing, with views over the lake and across the mountains. The hotel itself is good quality, very functional but nothing extraordinary. The spa on the other hand is excellent and can compete against the spas of big luxury hotels. It has recently been renovated and provides several pools (indoor and outdoor), sauna, treatment rooms, a well-equipped fitness center and, and, and, ....
Breakfast was ok, the food in the Thai restaurant is very good. All in all a recommendable place.

The Wilerbad is in a great location for the scenery ... not so great for any other restaurant than the average one that is on site. It's quite a hike or drive to any other options.
The rooms were average ... clean ... well kept ... but nothing special ... which is okay for business travel. But nothing special for that romantic weekend in the Alps however. Maybe that will change some once the spa construction is completed ... ???

Hotel is under construction. In a year, with the new spa it will be excellent. Today it offers decent rooms, meeting facilities, small fitness and good sauna.
Food in the restaurant is way over what you could expect.
Scenery very nice and quiet, easy access to Lucern and nice villages arround.
Mountain bicycles for rent, many hiking trails,
Personnell is extremely friendly and hospitable.
Overall good for a short break or as a base for travelling around the region

I stayed at this Hotel in September 2011 as part of an Insight Vacations Bus Tour.
The only good thing about it is the beautiful scenery around it and the spectacular views from its windows.
This is how I rated it....
Staff ....rude and very un-helpful 1/10
Food... below average 5/10
Bed... reasonable... 7/10
Bathroom... reasonable 7/10
Pillows... terrible 1/10
Breakfast...awful 1/10
It was the worst Hotel that I stayed in during the 2 Insight Bus tours that I did in France and the Alpine area. of Europe.
I would never stay there again and would rate it 2/10 and yet it claims to be a 4 star hotel.
It is as much like a 4 star Hotel as the Ritz would be like a 1 star hotel!

I stayed at this hotel whilst taking part in a seminar and I really can't rate it highly enough. The rooms were fresh and clean (cleaned daily!) The food was excellent and the staff friendly and extremely helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and I can't wait to return there next year!

I stayed at this hotel for a week in July 2010, with a large group. Our room was very large and clean, and beautifully painted in light blue. (Each section of the hotel is painted in a different colour, to match the seasons of the year). The bathroom was clean and a fresh supply of clean and crisp towels was provided daily. The beds were comfortable and clean. In addition, the carpet looked new and clean too - I usually do not like to walk barefoot on hotel room carpets, but I had no problem in this case. I have noticed that one reviewer above me complains of a mouldy smell, but I can say with certainty that there was no such smell in the room where I stayed. There is a safe in the room, but no fridge. We had a room with a balcony and a lake and mountain view, which I can assure you is stunning! It is the best view I have ever had from a hotel room in my entire life. You can see not only the lake, which changes colour depending on the weather, but also the green mountains, beautiful chalet style houses in the distance and the clouds cutting through the mountain. The view itself is a good enough reason to stay there, although you want to make sure you do get a room with a view. (The balcony itself is nothing fancy, and there is a sort of somewhat transparent glass screen separating it from the neighbouring balcony, but I considered that a minor issue.) And by the way, there is a small waterfall nearby, which you can also hear from the balcony at all times (great!) It was my understanding that some other members of the group we came with were less happy with their room, but judging by ours, I cannot see why.
On the other hand, we were all rather displeased with the restuarant service. We had half board. The food is nothing to write home about. The breakfast is good, but not rich. There was no variety (our group received no eggs or vegetables the entire week we stayed there). Dinner, consisting of soup, meat with some boiled vegetable and dessert, was nothing special. Though sufficient as far as I'm concerned, the portions were small and most members of the group were unsatisfied. The restaurant staff was rather rude on occasion.
As for the hotel location, it is beautifully located on the Sarnensee, but rather isolated. It is lovely to walk in the surrounded area, and to take in the views and the air. But there is nothing much else to do there, only a place to sleep. There is only a small minimarket, with only the bare necessities. There is one (rather infrequent) bus which takes you to the adjacent small town of Sarnen, where there is a train station with a link to Luzern. If you're with a car, or with a group, it's fine, otherwise, it would be impractical to stay there. Despite its limitations, I've really become attached to the place, due to the nice room and the views and would gladly stay there again.
