took trip across lake to Evian. A thunderstorm came up which sent us scrambling to the enclosed restaurant on-board. Even though we didn't order anything (30-minute crossing), the staff was so friendly & invited us to just sit & enjoy the view of lightning & rain safely!!

We have been sailing regularly on these vessels and have taken the lunch time tour on La Suisse many times since the ship's major renovations. Normally I would praise the experience - but no longer - and this is why ...

We were staying in Evian and started the day from there. We, two adults and a twelve year old, had bought our first class tickets for the 12:30 departure due to sail from Lausanne. We made our lunch booking at the same time. So far, so good.

We took the 11:45 Leman sailing from Evian and that arrived in Ouchy on time at 12:20. Swiss timetable precision gave us just ten minutes to board La Suisse and that worked out with no problems. And now it all went downhill ...

... the first class restaurant in La Suisse is a delightful reminder of La Belle Epoque. But only when you are allowed to sit there. We were sent up stairs to sit on aluminium-tube garden chairs which faced a plastic table top garnished with a paper table mat and a napkin. No crisp linen for you! And then, looking around, we realised that we were not in a restaurant at all and that other (completely innocent) passengers were tucking into their sandwiches and breaking out their thermos. flasks. We complained - where is the first class restaurant with its superior service? We were taken downstairs by the Maitre 'D. This was a Saturday. The restaurant was in a state of chaos. Five large family groups had been seated in groups of ten, children were running round screaming with delight, the noise level was appropriate to a disco. We retreated back to the relative calm of upstairs.

A waiter provided the menu (understandably limited and respecting the small galley space). He was the only effective individual serving our area. We ordered just the main course - veal steak with garden vegetables - and a bottle of Chasselas wine. I am pleased to say that the wine arrived well chilled. Unfortunately, so did the veal. The logistics of serving hot food at that distance from the galley is probably not solvable.

Then came the bill - and this is why I can no longer recommend taking this cruise. Including the return trip from Evian, the tickets for the lake tour and the mediocre lunch we - two adults and one child, spent a total of (gasp! shock! horror!) ...

Three Hundred and Forty Two Euros !!!

... which I hasten to translate to Four Hundred and Fifteen Swiss Francs or Four Hundred and Sixty Five US$s or, if you are inclined towards Sterling, Two Hundred and Seventy Two Pounds.

Caveat Emptor and never again. Well, not at a weekend anyway ...

The boat ride and lunch were nice. The waiters were a bit over loaded and service was slow. The food was good but not great. The boat ride was very smooth and the boat itself was clean.

This wonderful vintage paddle steamer has been beautifully restored. .
My wife and I took a return trip from Ouchy to Montreaux. We disembarked at Montreaux & boarded again on the vessels return from further round the lake. On the return we upgraded to first class which enabled access to the upper deck lounge, restaurant, bar and open deck areas fore and aft.
A trip on La Suisse is a fabulous way to enjoy a voyage on a paddle steamer while relaxing and taking in the beautiful scenery that Lake Geneva has to offer.

We went from Nyon to Montreaux. The cruise was great, but the food was better. Spend the extra and go first class. That way you get to eat in the beautiful dining room and have a wonderful lunch. I had a venison stew that was fabulous. Service was great, too.
