Upon arrival, the hotel makes a decent impression. Interesting foyer, high ceilings and a nice, elegant feel to it. That's where the good impressions stop, I'm afraid.
After checking in, I was accompanied by a bellboy to the room. I said I did not need help as I only had a small one-day trolley with me, but the receptionist insisted on sending the bellboy (a 50 something individual). I had no Swiss Francs on me so could not tip him. As he left the room I heard him mutter something which did not sound like "have a nice stay"...
The rooms are small and give you that "well used" feeling about them. The bathroom is very basic, with 80s style fittings and I would defy anyone to have a bath in the tub. Upon shaving, the sink filled up immediately and could not drain (suggesting blockage) and the same happened when showering.
Unless you are on floors 5 and 6, you can practically take part in the conversations taking place in the reception area - the sound insulation is non existent. You hear every noise / sound from adjacent rooms - coughs, sneezes, people running taps / showering. Good job noone had sex, but then again, it was not the most romantic of places to do that...
The bed was relatively clean and comfortable but the (only) pillow provided was too high and hard. Good job I had ear plugs so I got some sleep.
Breakfast was decent and basic, nothing to rave about. You pay extra for wi-fi but you have the option to use a (dated) free desktop in front of reception, the location and orientation of which makes any privacy work impossible.
There are good point about the hotel - it's perfect if you are arriving by train, the staff speak English.. and... that's about it... For the price - avoid!
