“Swiss Luxury”
Reviewed 25 June 2014

The Angleterre & Residence is a stunning top notch luxury Swiss hotel situated on Lake Leman in Ouchy in Lausanne. Adjacent to the Beau-Rivage Palace Hotel, it occupies a series of linked and renovated historic buildings. The style of building is modern restoration with glass and aluminium completed to an exacting quality.

The large bedrooms are decorated to a very high standard with tasteful furniture and decorations. Bed lined, towels, slippers and toiletries are all sheer luxury. The bathrooms are spacious with no expense spared on the fixtures and fittings. There are separate loos in the bedrooms that I have stayed in and some of the rooms have small balconies.

Meals can be had in the restaurant and if inclined you can sit outside with stunning views across the lake to the mountains in France and Switzerland. You are unlikely to find a better breakfast. The restaurant can be busy in the evenings especially at the weekend, so make a reservation if you intend to eat in.

The employees our efficient and discreet - they are here to help you.

There is an modern underground car park next to reception which you will have to pay for. There is also a medium size swimming pool in the grounds of the garden.

For those in need to exercise a walk along the lake promenade is easy and for the more adventitious the metro is within five minutes of the hotel and it will wisk you to the main railway station and then beyond to the city center. The hotel will provide you with a free travel pass. The nearby ferry terminal has boats leaving for Evian across the lake in France at least once an hour.

In terms of cost Switzerland is expensive and so is the hotel. However you will be buying luxury.

Having some (9) friends over for a long weekend, we decided all to stay in a hotel in Lausanne/Ouchy. To keep it affordable, in stead of choosing the 5 star Beau Rivage, we went to the 4 star neighbor (same management).
The set-up of the hotel is very interesting; a separate central reception building and then a couple of beautiful 2 story buildings around it with the rooms. Quality of my room was excellent. Nice bed, spacious bathroom and super lake view.
The hotel features a small outdoor pool (4 x 10 meter) with deck chairs around it. We has splendid weather, so most chairs were taken, but there were always some available.
The restaurant l'Accedemia serves a very good breakfast buffet and lunch. Dinner was great; Italian inspired. It is rather pricey though for what it is, but the great view of the lake (only the boulevard separates you) makes up for it.
The staff is super friendly and helpful. The cleaning staff might show up at the strangest hours though....

Room Tip: Go for the lake view!

Our stay at this beautiful property could not have been more enjoyable. It is located across a street from Lake Geneva and has an unimpeded view of the lake. Walk across the street and you are on a walk by the lake and on the pier. Beautiful! The rooms were clean and contemporary with plenty of room. Switzerland is expensive but this was a very good value. We did not take the breakfast buffet option but had breakfast at the hotel restaurant on the patio (in the sun enjoying the lake) and had cappuccinos and croissants for less than 10 euro. On previous reviews we had been advised that the property had more than one building so we requested three rooms in the same building and our request was granted. Two of our family rented bikes from the hotel and had great fun riding the hills of Lausanne. As wonderful as the hotel property and location was the staff was the best. My wife lost her purse and the hotel was extreamly helpful. It was turned in the day after we left Lausanne and we received an email from Florine indicating that the purse had been found with everything still in it. Since we were already in Italy Florine offered to send it to our US address at no cost to us. Extraordinary customer service! What a wonderful experience and memory!

Room Tip: There is more than one building on the property. If you need more than one room you can request that...

This is a good hotel in a good location in the area near the lake, not very far from the Olympic Museum (for us, the highlight of Lausanne).

We weren't able to try the restaurant but the room was a very good size and our problem with the TV was fixed quickly. No problems on that score.

Our only quibble was the noise from the laundry van around 8.30 am. Noisy, noisy. No-one could sleep through that, so get up early or ask for a room away from the street. Smooth check-in. Friendly staff.

Room Tip: Ask fro a room away from the laundry van. Or get up early.

Stayed here 4 nights in late April/early May. We were upgraded to a room on the top floor with three huge windows overlooking Lake Geneva. Lots of closet space, nice bathroom with shower and separate tub, two chairs with small table and desk in the room. The breakfast area is on the ground floor of the building and had a vast array of choices. The scrambled eggs and pancakes were wonderful. You could also order other types of eggs if you wanted them. The breakfast was expensive (34 Swiss Francs) but we enjoyed every bite and didn't need to eat lunch. We also had dinner in the restaurant one night and thought it was excellent. Everyone at the hotel was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed being lakeside rather than in the old town. The walk along the lake is very pretty (flowers everywhere) and the ferry is right there (take the trip to Yvoire in France - a lovely day out). The Metro stop is just a couple of minutes from the hotel and it is easy to get up into the old town, walk around and take the Metro back down to the lake. The hotel provides a Metro pass so this is free. We also took the train to Gruyere and Bulle to see the cheese and chocolate factories. We stopped in at the tourist office at the rail station (on the Metro line) and someone there arranged the train tickets and printed out the connections. It was very easy and less expensive than going on the organized tour (Chocolate Train).

Located right on Lake Geneva, in an old building where Byron is said to have stayed, I found the modern, spacious and comfortable rooms quite luxurious. The bar in the hotel was a great place to sit down in the evening and look out over the lake to the mountains in France. The ferry to Evian, France is just a few footsteps away, and to walk or run along the lake is a pleasure - the path goes on for miles and miles. Given the view across the lake, this was one hotel I was sorry to leave after a short stay of just two nights.

Its a excellent hotel with nice breakfast and a italian restaurant and a great view from Leman lake. The room was very good, but the toillete a little disappointing because the bathroom gets wet while bathing.
