“This is Local, not Paris 5*”
Reviewed 9 September 2013

It seems alot of people complain about this resto, the service, waiting, food, etc..but it seems that they do not come from Lausanne..this is one of the most loved Cafés in town..a real down to earth bistrot, and it does not pretend to be anything else..so the people who had bad service or food...were they waiting for a 5* ?? I think that you have to understand that Lausanne is still very ' village ' in its way of living, and this goes for it's bistrots..We have been going with many friends for the past 20 odd years..OK, we are known, and we know that some of the servers are a little jumpy ??, but maybe they also are having a hard day ??,...now onto the menus !

REMEMBER this is a local bistrot..some of these things might offend...

Veal kidneys in old mustard sauce with home made rosti..

Sliced chicken livers in old style whole grain mustard....and rosti..!

Lamb Shank..

Poached bone-marrow with garlic bread..

Trad.Saucisse aux choux..with leek and potatoe papet..

Trad. cheese on toast...

There's alot more, but please take time to visit this truely Vaudoise Café..and please...take your

“A place to avoid at all costs - bad food - bad service & HOMOPHOBIC”
Reviewed 12 August 2013 via mobile

I went with 2 friends. The food was really average to really bad.
The Steaktartare was about OK, but a bit mushy, the meat for the Le véritable Caquelon du vigneron was also just OK, the sauces nothing that special, and the so called homemade French fries where fried to death and really ugly. I had the Scaloppines de veau au citron wich sounded delicious to read but not so much when tasting, again the so called homemade noodles where definitely shop bought, the mixed salad came in a long bowl that one would use to serve a line of olives... The creamy sauce had no cream, and the veal was a bit tough.
To be fair, I knew when we entered that this was not going to be a five star experience, but it definitely wasn't worth the money we paid for.

The service was slow and pretty HOMOPHOBIC - we asked for the large club in Lausanne and the waiter was almost unstoppable to make nasty comments about it, because on that night the have the weekly gay event...

“Great food, terrible service”
Reviewed 4 June 2013 via mobile

We ate here as a family. The menu was nice as it was both in French and English. The selection of traditional food was excellent as was the food itself. The service itself was some of the worst I have ever had in terms of friendliness and sympathy for a family of non-french speakers who were trying their best.

This put a damper on what could have been an incredible experience. Two of the desserts, including my daughter's, were wrong. This made her cry and the waiter didn't care. We ended up paying in cash and leaving a tip just to get out of their. It made me appreciate the tipping system in the US, which I normally hate, as the wait staff at least has to try.

“Warm and hospitable”
Reviewed 12 March 2013

I've been staying nearby for over a month, but finally tried this place. Very good experience all the way around. The waitstaff were very friendly and helpful, service was prompt, and the menu had many (what I believe to be) regional dishes. I went out of the box and had chicken livers in a mustard based dark gravy with a roesti (hash browns), and it was excellent, as was the beer (Ittinger). It was reasonably priced as well. I'm definitely making weekly visits for the rest of my stay in Lausanne.

Just horrible, minus five!we made a reservation and asked for a discret place not in the middle of the restaurant for 2 persons.they confirmed this reservation twice.finally we got there and waited 10 minuted till one employee came and showed the confirmed table.sitting at our table the employee came back and told to change table to the middle of the restaurant that three persons can take our table.we answered that we wanted to keep our table.he answered that he wanted to satisfy everybody. But we argued that we will be unhappy in the middle where all the rush is.then he answered to take the other place or to leave.he didn t take into account what we wanted and ignored our reservation!!! Thus we left...this attitude is just disrespectful and a shame for swiss restaurants!!
