“Enormous room, great location, and POOL!”
Reviewed 13 August 2013 via mobile

This hotel could not have been better! It was steps from the promenade with gorgeous views! The staff was extremely helpful providing maps and tourist information. You have access to a larger pool next door just steps outside with towels provided. The rooms were enormous with chandeliers and large armoires. There were two lifts and a large lobby. I would stay there again!

We had a family room - it was on the street side of the hotel. Large, very dated. It was supposed to be "renovated" but didn't seem like it was? The lake side rooms would be much better. There was an evaporative air conditioner in our room which helped (it was very hot) it was noisy and you had to have the window open to vent it - counterproductive! It ran out of water in the middle of the night and then we sweltered.
We swam in both the Eden Palace and casino pools - it was nice to have the option of the casino pool which is much larger - they sell day passes to the public so it is very busy on hot days.
We enjoyed lunch at the Eden Palace on the river - great food and such a lovely view, a highlight. The breakfast was also very good. You can imagine the hotel was very grand in its heyday but it definitely needs a major update. Montreaux in general could use an upgrade! We were due to stay two nights but left after one to go to Geneva.

Room Tip: Definitely book a lake view room.

What a disaster, dirty, no working a/c, no phones in the room and reception is down the block, its old and beat up and stinks. We had all sorts of problems including over 90 degrees in the room and the staff could not find a working portable a/c. We had to move our own luggage in the heat as they said we had another room in another hotel but as I turned back the key, they said 'sorry, mistake' and dragged our luggage back up. They comp'd us dinner but gave us all diarrhea. It does not look like the photos whatsoever and is a true 'hole in the wall'. Avoid like the plague!

Room Tip: Never Stay Here!

We stayed one night following a concert at MJF. The hotel is right on the promenade making the outdoor restaurant pleasantly quiet. The food was good, although the waitress did seem to forget we existed towards the end ofmthe meal. Room was ok, but the main AC unit was not working and wenhad a portable one which was very noisy and not overly effective. Breakfast was average. Altogether we got what we expected for the price - this is not a hidden gem, but worthy of consideration.

I am a reasonable reviewer and understand not all things are as they seem in the world of hotels, especially in the cut throat world of the Montreux jazz festival period when hotels put prices up and its busy etc. Notwithstanding the 1000 francs for 2 over the montreux weekend which one will swallow as being used to Swiss prices, you do expect the hotel to be somewhat similar to the star rating.
Was it? errrrr no, and its certainly not shabby chic more tragic and worth avoiding.
Reception, rude defined as, oh who are you then,,,,, heres a key ... thanks...
Question. heres my luggage, you are 4 star and I am paying a 1000, any chance of having it taken to the room..... Errrrr you could take it yourself..
Bedrooms - Old beds dipping with so much sitting on the edges ie not a restful night sleep unless you like the rolling onto the floor game in the night. Overall room quality. rubbish
The food is average and expensive v other eateries but they try to incentivise with a 10% off voucher.
The Pool and outdoor area are old and over run by people so there is no rest and relaxation unless you like rubber inflatables in your face
All in all I would seriously avoid. Although not in such a great location the Golf Rene hotel beat this hands down for the staff who make it miles more accomodating.
The Spa and gym.. Really? no its more a running machine located in splendid isolation like a piece of modern art and a Spa (well that must have been the referring to the term Spa in Roman times).
Not to be visited spend elsewhere.
