We are traveling on a budget, so picked this apartment by price.
It is probably only 200 meters from the station and that was just a five minute journey from Zurich HB.
The apartment is bland, but has all two people need. Plenty of restaurants by the station and a fully equipped kitchen for eating in

Although we had a slight problem with getting the keys based on a system failure but after a call with the office emergency extension everything was solved

We spent one night at the Swiss Star apartments at number 16 Friesstrasse in Oerlikon, Zurich. The apartments are above a row of bars, kebab shops and Turkish/Balkan shisha bars. The only good thing about them was the price and the convenience for concerts at Hallenstadion. The entry to the building was full of piles of dirty sheets, the carpet was covered with plastic sheeting, and the lift was broken. On arrival at our second floor apartment we found it to be filthy and it smelt terrible. It had not been cleaned when we arrived. Luckily we found the cleaner and were able to wait while she then cleaned it. After that it was ok, but the smell still lingered.
Builders started drilling immediately outside the apartment at 07.55. The noise was terrible. No one has warned us to expect this.
I was facing last night a very unpleasant event, when I tried to obtain the key card from the box.
I typed the code I received into the keycode box, but when I opened the box there was no card! The box was simply empty!
I rang the “call center”, where a lady told me the room number 123, after I explained her the situation. She also advised me that I can enter the room with my personal code received. I made the phone call at least 3 times, from 18.01- to 18.17.Then it worked, so there was my room.Thanks to the lady from the call center I managed to get the room.
I accessed the room, but after 30 minutes, a lady accompanied by 2 young boys , rang the bell.
Opening, she told me that she has a card with room 123, that she found the card in her box when she typed her personal code. I asked her if she managed to open the room with her personal code , she could not, while I was able!
In fact she had on reservation 2 rooms. So , someone placed my card into her keybox! Bad omen…
End of the story, this morning , 08.00 AM, a Police patrol arrived at my door, asking my ID, telling me that there is a complain, interrogating me, that someone else was supposed to stay in this room.
I explained the gentleman the situation, very unpleasant, he understood and they left.
I really do not get why the Police came to my door, this is very insulting!!!
I really thought U, as a Business company R serious, but it seems not at all.!
I am very much disturbed about the situation created with the police coming to my door, and the whole situation created.
I will not ever make a booking on Swiss Star Group,neither me, nor other acquaitances, this is a real shame that something like this happen.
U should train the responsible people to do their job properly!
The room was very close to the Oerlikon Trainstation. From this station multiple trains per hour leave towards the city center and airport. Very convenient, especially in combination with the ZürichCARD. However, there was only 1 very small blanket for two people, luckily a second one was in the closet. Also the room was not fully cleaned, an empty bottle was lying on the bedroom floor, which makes you wonder how clean everything is.
