You look for a quiet place to escape the rush of the city by yourself or with your significant other? This is the place. Beware to keep your watch close by as time will fly on this serenity Island.

The gardens are accessed on public transit with Tram #2 or #4 to Hoschgasse and then approximately a 10 minute walk up the hill. The main gardens open at 07.00 and the greenhouses opens from 09.30 until 17.00. The three main greenhouses were renovated and opened to the public in June.
I would allow about two hours for a casual stroll through this free attraction that is part of the University of Zurich. There is a large pond in addition to smaller ones with lilies and plants growing in them along with frogs.
The ultimate highlight of the gardens is the three futuristic looking pod shaped growing houses. Upon entering, several of the exhibits in the lobby area are still under construction. One of the pods has a man-made viewing platform with a view from high above.
The expansive grounds here offer several areas for one to just sit on a bench and take in the serene environment located here in the heart of the city.
There is also a live beehive colony and covered trails along the edge of the park. A majority of the premises is accessible to the physically challenged, though there are some steep inclines.
There is a cafeteria on premises as well as restroom facilities.
I would certainly recommend this free attraction!

We visited mid July 2013 and maybe it was the heat but I have to say I felt like it wasn't worth the trip. From the tram stop you walk about 2 or 3 blocks down a hill then up a hill to get to the green houses. The green houses were quite small, very warm, and there wasn't much to see. The only good thing was the frog pond before you get to the green houses which was filled with frogs hopping in and swimming around. If you have kids you could bring them here to play and run around but other than that don't expect too much out of this.

The botanical garden is such a beautiful place to spend some time. I'm so happy that it is open again after the restoration of the three futuristic looking buildings.

A lovely excursion through a well kept and tended garden, an oasis of total sublimity in a city that is already well laid back
