“Peace and Comfort”
Reviewed 25 August 2012

The Hotel Kindli is a lovely property located on a side street of the upscale shopping district of Zurich. It is very near the train station, an easily walk able distance even if you're pulling a sizeable suitcase, as I did. It is a luxury boutique hotel on the small side, but unlike othe reviewers, i did not find the room to be small. Ours was quite commodious and extremely comfortable. On the corner of the hotel, the third floor, we had windows that looked out on to the adjacent streets and a nice view of the surrounding Swiss apartments. there are all kinds of sights to enjoy within walking distance of the Kindli, mincluding Lake Zurich, the center of the Zurich triathlon the day we were there. The neighborhood is also home to some very nice restaurants, including one famous for serving typical Swiss cuisine. I'm sorry I can't recall it's name, but the Kindli staff will know which it is. Excellent sausages and FABULOUS potato salad, all served with big steins and glasses of beer.

The Swiss are famous for their neat and tidy country and the Hotel Kindli expresses those values. Our room was decorated in neutral colors, the bathroom in white. Everything was on tip-top condition. Very nice Kiehl bath products in the latter. The furnishings are all first-rate: the bed has a down mattress and duvet that made for a restful night's sleep.

The breakfast was standard for Europe: croissant, fruits, cheese, coffee or tea, but very nice offerings, nonetheless. My sweet husband got a tray from the helpful uoung woman at the front desk and brought it to me in the room.

It's a bit on the spendy side, but Zurich was recently identified as one of the most expensive cities in Europe, so the Kindli's rate is in line with the relatively high costs there. Still, we loved the Kindli. It's worth scrimping on other parts of a visit to Europe to enjoy the comforts of the Kindli at the end of your trip as we did at the end of our month-long visit to the continent.

Room Tip: We had a room on the corner of the third floor. It was not small in the least.

A lovely little hotel tucked away amongst the Hugo Bosses and Louis Vuittons of Zurich's premier shopping area.

We actually booked this hotel purely based on a listing in the "Europe by Rail" book which said it was decorated and furnished by Laura Ashley... A silly premise on our behalf, particularly since this didn't appear to be the case in our room nor the public areas. Just as well it was still a nice hotel!

The rooms were comfortable, but quite small, so you only had a margin of area around the bed in which to move. We didn't spend all that much time doing anything but sleeping or relaxing on the bed so it was just as well. Our bed had an up and down function like a [extremely comfortable] hospital bed which made lounging and reading super comfy.

The breakfast was as we came to expect from this calibre of hotel in Europe and set you up well for the day.

We would definitely stay here again if we came back to Zurich.

Room Tip: Our room had an electrical bed which may appeal to some guest so be sure to ask for it.

I've been spending 3-4 nights a week in the Kindli hotel for the past few weeks and I absolutely love going there... It's a luxury boutique hotel owned and managed by an individual - and you get the homely feeling when you are there... Never have to wait at reception, always a friendly smile and everyone willing to go the extra mile.

From the free fruit, waters, coffee, pastries, news papers, magazines etc. in the reception area, to the lovely art that graces the corridors and rooms - this was a true find.

What makes it even better is that the hotel has one of the best restaurants in Zurich.

Breakfast is great.

Overall - I would recommend this to discerning business travelers and tourists alike.

Kindli Hotel is one of the best choice in Zurique costxbenefits. The only problem are the rooms. I booked a superior room hoping to have more space, but it didn't work. All the rooms are very small. Actually I didn't spend that much time at the hotel. The breakfast is wonderful with lots of options. Near the hotel you can also find good restaurants and it's near (5 minutes walk) from Bahnhofstrasse.

Having decided at short notice to attend a work conference in Zurich's Widder Hotel, it was invevitable that the Widder itself would already be full but our host recommended the Kindli which is literally just opposite and around the corner.

The entrance to the Kindli is actually on Pfalzgasse, just off the main Rennweg of the old town and one is immediately welcomed by a small but warm reception. There are surrounding clues to the care that has been put into this small establishment, like the free tea and coffee counter and the internet terminal, all tastefully embedded into the traditional Swiss interior.

The rooms are smallish in size but snugly fitted out and most amenities are available including comfy Hastens beds which are electrically reclinable. My room even had a custom made wardrobe which had obviously been fitted to the curves and corners of the room so as to conserve space. There is a modern LCD telly with all the usual international satellite channels available as well as an all important and fully functional/easy to access wifi. The bathroom is traditional but well stocked, and is again cosy but functional.

Breakfast was served in the restaurant downstairs which actually opens out in the main Rennweg and is pleasant with a wooded interior.

So all in all a good stay at a cosy Swiss hotel with an excellent location in the heart of the old town, and at much less exorbitant prices than those of the Widder I might add.

This is the second time we have stayed at the Hotel Kindli on the night before our flight from Zurich Airport to the US. We prefer small hotels, and the Kindli fits that requirement. The hotel is an easy 10 minute walk from the train station, so quite accessible, and its location in Old Town gives opportunities to explore that area. The hotel itself is charming, the staff friendly and welcoming, the beds very comfortable, and the down pillows and duvets quite lovely. Our bathroom was clean and modern with a tub and shower combination. The rooms are small but comfortable. The price included breakfast, wi-fi and mini-bar in the room, and coffee, tea, cookies, pastries and fruit in the lobby. Breakfast is served in the lovely Kindli restaurant and includes eggs, yogurts, meusli, fruit, breads, etc. We felt that the price of the room was reasonable for Zurich. If you prefer a small hotel in Old Town, the Kindli is highly recommended.

During our trip last Christmas, we did not make reservations in Zurich for the last few days before our flight out. (We had been to Zurich several times and believed that we could wing it.) So, we walked up to the Kindli and found a little jewel in Zurich. The staff was very helpful and so polite. The breakfast was delicious. The old town location cannot be beat. I read the other reviews complaining that the rooms were small, but we thought our room was fine. And, as for the price, this is reasonable given the location and compared to the other rates in Zurich.
