“Great hotel in the best location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 August 2014

Charming hotel with affordable prices and positioned close to the station, but on a quiet street in the city centre. The service was great. Compact rooms, but have everything needed for a few days stay. Just perfect! And our room was ready early as we requested before arriving.

Room Tip: The higher floors have way better view!

We took the hotel shuttle outside Zurich airport to the hotel for CHF39 (for 2 persons). The journey took us around 15mins which was fast. We had informed the hotel earlier that we would be there after 9pm. Hence they had given us all the necessary notes via email on how to access the room key and the id code (and Wi-Fi id and password) to enter the hotel building (there was no receptionist at this hour). Well, obviously the place is not really a hotel but something like a service apartment. We were given a small apartment with mini kitchen. There is a door that separated the bedroom with kitchen and bathroom area. The room was spacious and cozy (though one of the bed was squeaking – but it was not a big deal). It was quite warm in the room with no a/c or fan so we have to open the window to let some cold air to flow in (and it was perfectly safe). We just spent one night at the hotel and early in the morning we checked-out. The receptionist was very helpful and even called the cab for us. Though the hotel is just 8 minute-walk from the train station but due to its hilly road and heavy bags (and was raining heavily) we decided to take a cab. It cost us CHF13.

We stayed for 4 nights for Ironman Zurich in a double room that was facing the road.
Room was spacious and airy, clean with a small adequate kitchenette. fan was on in room when we arrived as was a hot day, and t.v was ready on English channels for us,great picture signal..which was appreciated.

FREE PARKING & FREE WIFI

The only very small negative was the noise of the trams make sure you have earplugs if yr a light sleeper like me.

The front of house staff Lisa and Dean are very helpful and lovely made our stay very pleasant
The housemaids are lovely too..

There is a tram stop right outside the hotel apparently it's free in other city's but not Zurich...which is rubbish because nobody pays to use it in Zurich anyway.

Zurich is a beautiful city especially the lake area but be prepared as its a very expensive place and Astor is a great place to stay so don't hesitate just book it!

Room Tip: If you want a nice view book top floor road facing we had room 406 which was good view,if you want a...

As with other people, the hotel is well located although while going to the hotel it is an uphill climb and better to take the tram with luggage. Also the hotel does not have a 24 hour reception, we had an emergency and had to call the hotel reception which got redirected to another number which was picked up. We got an early check in and overall a pleasant stay for our group. We had three rooms all facing the street, which was a little noisy with the tram running till late in the night nothing we could not get by. Appreciate the free washing machine and dryer facility.

Room Tip: Try and get the room not facing the road.

Like it that the room has a kitchenette that allows you to do some small cooking.
Though there isnt a 24h reception, the hotel/serviced apartment have arrangements that allow you to check in even at unearthly hours.
Quite far away from the city (HBF) we have to say. About 15 min walk away, on a slope..if you know where to walk.. The Zurich road signs are small and aren't clear, plus we arrived very late into the night. We actually spent 45 min looking for the place. Hence better arm yourself with a good map before you go (We didn't find tourist maps at the HBF station and the info panel map was tattered)!
The slope wasn't killing or anything, we quite enjoyed the exercise actually :D
There's a Coop supermarket somewhere between HBF and Astor. A note that most Coops are closed on Sundays.

The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance to the old city, railway station and Bahnhofstrasse , and there is a tram station just next to the hotel if you wish to take public transport. The room is clean, and has all the basic furniture you need, although we did not have a proper cupboard , just a shelf unit with low hanging rail , so nowhere to hang coats or dresses. The kitchenette is tiny, enough to prepare breakfast or very basic meals. Our room , on the first floor was actually half sub terrain, because the hotel is build on a hill, so the rooms facing the rear of the building are in fact "loosing" one floor .On the positive side, noise from the street was minimal. There is also free good wifi and parking. Staff is very friendly.
