“Lovely boutique hotel, good restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2012

This hotel is a charming renovated old building in a very convenient location. The rooms are elegant, spacious and with very high ceilings. There are two buildings with a pretty patio in between, whe the terrace of the restaurant is located.
Breakfast was very good and inncluded in the room price.
Only point to improve would be the corridors that are a bit run down.
We will definitely go back if in Zurich again

Our stay at Hotel St Josef was comfortable, quiet and cosy. Our room on the top floor at the back was spacious, modern and very, very clean. Beds were really comfortable and, coming from Australia, it was a real buzz to look out the window and see the snow on near-by buildings and courtyards. Really convenient part of town with the trams, trains, old city and funicular all really close-by. Breakfast was provided in a pleasant little room and there was plenty of variety. The staff were efficient and helpful but not overly friendly (typically Swiss). Great value for money. We would happily stay again.

The room was sleek, modern and quite large. It had a sofa, chair, small table and writing desk. Also an electric jug and a selection of teabags. The safe was big enough for a laptop. There was also a balcony, big enough to sit on. There was a laundry on the premises. The breakfast buffet had an excellent selection, the best we encountered in five weeks in Europe. The hotel is close to the station, although instead of following the advice to go up the stairs to the street with a heavy suitcase, continue along the pavement for a couple of hundred meters and you'll find a ramp that will take you straight to the hotel. Also walking distance to the old town, shops and restaurants. Would love to go back one day!

I'd been to Zurich before and came back with a friend who had never been, so I was looking for a place to stay that was not that expensive but close to everything I wanted to show her without having to take the tram.
This hotel has reasonable pricing for the great location it is in. Our room was in the house next door, it was quiet and clean. It was right under the roof but not too hot.
The breakfast buffett was nice and contained everything you need and a lot of local specialties. For example jams and special bread. The staff was also very nice.
The day we were leaving we were able to put our luggage in the office and store it there till we left for the airport. The hotel is also very easy to get to from the airport either by Tram 10 to Central or by train to the nearby trainstation.
All in all I recommend this hotel to short trip visitors of Zurich!

We stayed at the hotel for a total of four days. The hotel is located close to the main train station and the Bahnhopfstrasse. There are some stairs but it wasn't a big issue. The Limmat River is close by and there are a myriad of street cafes and restaurants. The staff was awesome: polite, understanding, and more than happy to bend over backwards to help. The breakfast was included and was good. Our room was clean and comfy and they separated our beds as requested My only complaint is that our room had no air conditioning and the fan was not that useful.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with air conditioning if you travel in the summer

Mrs Despot and I stayed at Hotel St Josef for several days in two visits during June, after much online research. We were pleased with our choice, as the rooms were simple and to the point, albeit without A/C (although a fan did the trick nicely - despite being spoilt despots - on a warm 30 degree day), comfortable and very clean. The easy journey to the train station is a blessing when you are rushing, and those incredible trams are within very easy reach too, for your exploring forays....the Zurich 24/72 hr travel card was sold at reception, and is a must.
The breakfast room was well stocked with a wide range, and the weekday evening restaurant from the same rooms served the best meal we had in our 5 week euro trip. Make your own good choice...

Room Tip: ask for one back from the road, to minimise road noise.

I chose the hotel because it is close to the train station. However it is not obvious from maps that it is quite steeply uphill for part of the route, including steps.

It's a typically efficient Swiss place, which means well-maintained, quality furnishings, and friendly staff. On the other hand, as you would expect in a city like Zurich, it is very expensive - even for the tiny room I was put in. It was a very hot day but there was no air-conditioning, just a fan. I had to leave the window open which meant there was a fair amount of noise to disrupt sleep.

The hotel restaurant was not open (closed at weekends) but there are plenty of restaurants fairly close - drop down to Niederdorfstrasse and wander along the street for plenty of choices.
