We booked a room for our first night in Switzerland, after flying form Alaska we needed somewhere to crash after the long flight. Some personal issues came up before we left on our trip and we had to adjust our stay to come home early and unfortunately move all our reservations around which was already very hard to do, having to stay up till midnight to call Switzerland and hard to connect. EVERY other accommodation we booked was SO friendly and accommodating and let us change the dates of our stay last minute but Guesthouse Dienerstrasse was awful, we wanted to change our stay to come 2 days early but they refused to even consider moving our reservation even though they had rooms available. They wanted us to have to pay for a new room and just let the original room sit empty since we could no longer use it.

Half the reason I book rooms at B&B's, inns, rentals is getting to deal with real people and real property owners vs giant hotel chains - typically they have a personal touch that is much more welcoming and id much rather be giving my money to a person than a chain but that was not the case here, they had no humility in the situation and we will never book with them again.

You should only consider staying here if you can sleep with earplugs.

The first night we were here, it was so noisy with people talking, screaming, laughing until 7am. Granted, we were here on a Friday and Saturday night- not sure what it would be like on the weekdays but two of us couldn't sleep the entire time.

Also, the area didn't feel unsafe at all. I couldn't really tell if there were strip clubs around.

With that said:

Positives
+ can't beat the price
+ pots and pans available, kitchen stocked
+ grocery store <10min away (Coop)
+ elevator
+15 min walk to the train station
+ doesn't feel unsafe

Negatives
- noisy
- the shower curtain was too small and didn't really work to stop water from spraying out onto the floor
- the wall in the bathroom looked really damaged...not sure what happened in there.

Be sure to write down the code to obtain your key from the machine right next to the front door. We didn't have trouble with the system at all.

A little difficult to find as the front door was located on a side alley, however, using previous reviews from trip advisor, I was able to find the property without too many issues (the side alley is also named Dienstrausse and is the first street east of Tellestrausse. The corner business is a small bar). Turn down this alley and you will see a small door on the left side of the building.

This was more of a self containing apartment than a hotel. The room was quite spacious and offered a kitchenette (with stove and full sized fridge)

The bed was comfortable, the wifi was easy to connect to and the shower had great pressure, however, the shower was draining so slowly, that even after we were forced to have a shower with the slightest amount of pressure, we would still need to cut the water after a couple of minutes so it could drain without overflowing.

The area has plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from. I had read on previous reviews that this was a red light district. Definitely not! There was only one strip club on the corner, and from memory, there was one sign indicating this.

The hotel was one of the cleanest, neatest and pleasant we have every experience. The studio is full equipped with a decent range of household appliances (very useful although we did not have the chance to make full use of them). The guesthouse has no reception, which makes the whole experience rather impersonable. A lack of human touch. However, the automated self check-in/out was convenient and fuss-free. Just follow instructions on your booking reference.

A few bummers that made our stay unpleasant.
1) Unhelpful and rude customer service - This happened when we discovered some of our personal items (ie: umbrella, train tickets to the airport, and some other important travel documents) went missing after we came back from a long day of sight-seeing. We had left on a shelf in the cupboard. Upon calling the emergency customer service, not only was the man over the phone rude. He was shockingly unhelpful... refusing to take responsibility for the missing items. He suggested that we contacted the police for help because our missing items "were not his problem" and that "he was not going to buy a new umbrella or train tickets to replace our loss". (Yes, we remember those were his exact words in a condescending tone).

2) Poor Wifi signal - which did not help our situation because we needed connection to the internet at that crucial time to get help for our missing items and travel documents.

Long story short, we managed to get our issues sorted at the end. Lucky us.

Would be recommend this guesthouse? Yes and no.
You decide.

Room Tip: Choose a non-smoking room.

This apartment is close to main train station in an area not far from central city. On checking in we found the floor and furniture covered in biscuit, chocolate crumbs and other debris, obviously it had not been vacuumed or cleaned. We phoned the service number and was told they would get back to us which they never did. There was also cutlery missing from kitchen drawer.
This attitude and the state of apartment spoilt what was otherwise a nice place to stay at a reasonable price. There was some night noise from local bars but it was the world cup soccer.

Room Tip: Don't rely on any help from the call number they supply. The apartment name as advertised does not appear anywhere on the outside, in fact it has some other name on the door.
