Had brunch here with my husband and daughter this past Sunday. We received a voucher in the mail for free cappuccino and free homemade waffles with brunch. The reviews looked good so thought we'd give it a shot. Boy were we glad we did.

Loved the retro style of the place. Everything looks genuinely from an older time period...the bar, the lights, the mirrors, the walls, the curtains, the tables and chairs, and the decors....all consistently vintage looking. The waitress and bartender were very friendly and welcoming. When we walked in with a stroller, the bartender immediately took us to the elevator in the lobby of the building next door which required a key. Upon entering the second floor lounge, he politely asked other patrons to make way for us to push the stroller through, which we were very grateful for. I didn't have very high expectations for the food since the place seems more of a bar/lounge, than a restaurant. The "American Breakfast" brunch menu offers about a dozen choices of standard items such as fried/scrambled eggs; French toast; pancakes; hash browns; cornmeal waffles; honey apple granola....all for under Fr. 10. Then there was the "Hotel Breakfast", for Fr. 25, which includes a basket of various breads, eggs any style, hash browns, ham, and fruits. The choice was a no-brainer.

Our cappuccinos came first and they were simply delightful. The cappuccinos were beautifully designed one with heart and the other one with leaf in the middle and tasted amazing! So rich and creamy, with a hint of chocolate, absolutely delectable! Then our food arrived, and sooo much of it. The bread basket was filled with all kinds of different breads all fresh and warm. The butter was served in a small hotel desk bell shaped metal butter dish, cleverly matching the hotel theme of the bar/lounge. Our "Hotel Breakfast" did not disappoint either, tasty and filling, exactly what I was craving. Then the waitress brought up our homemade waffles and mixed fruits platter, which looked like a whole other brunch for another person! The waffles were fluffy and airy with a little bit of powdered sugar sprinkled on top. The fresh mixed fruits were beautifully carved. Looked like somebody took pride in the presentation of the food served as well as the taste.

There was nothing short of a perfect brunch experience at Hotel Rivington & Sons. Can't wait til next Sunday!

Right at the bottom of Prime Tower building. Interior, the bar, wood panels, mirrors are taken from an old hotel. Downstairs inside is like a French style cafe, small round tables and small round chairs. And a long bar. They are not the most friendly furniture but they have very friendly service (and for me, this place is very special because services in Zurich can be awful or ok, but very few are excellent). And they have very very good coffee. They also serve good tasty sandwiches and burger. They also have tables and chairs outside, the table are old looking, made of iron with old paint job (but that really adds charm). After office hours, they are packed with people (probably from the office staff from the building, and they had good music).

This is one of a very few place in Zurich that offers cooked brunch and not overly crowded.
Food is not bad for what you pay.
The retro American decor looked also charming under the day light.
Service is rather slow (i had a feeling there were maybe only 1 cook in the kitchen), but that could also be a part of charm for relaxed weekend brunch.

It's also a nice bar in the evenings.

Want a bar where you feel the staff is there to advice you , make your time less stressful and enjoyable. With good beer on tap and specialties in bottles , there is a great choice for beer lovers however ask a Alexes , friendly bloke with the beard to make you a cocktail. You won't find red bull here but the cocktails are traditional and done by someone who has pride in his job.

it took me a while to discover what was odd in this bar. not just the somewhat restricted choice of beer.. no, its the seating. Tables and stools screwed to the floor. Rather like a bus stop. Not so convivial but also quite difficult to eat from... roast beef sandwich excellent though!
