“My home away from home in Zurich”

The greulich ( grey) is a smartly designed boutique hotel that pays attention to details. We stayed in one of its apartments ( with kitchen) so we could prepare some meals . we found it almost like home and stocked our fridge with fresh produce from the Tuesday farmers market down nearby. Like all hotels it's that staff that make it out break it. The staff get five stars - no request was too hard and they cheerfully fulfilled our requests. While The hotel is located a bit away from tourist activities ( short tram ride ) that was fine with us as we enjoyed the neighborhood and its helpful inhabitants .

We stayed in this enchanting boutique hotel for two nights. Its understated charm, minimalistic but stylish decor and unpretentious architecture was pleasing and a pleasant change to the over the top decor one often finds in some boutique hotels. The staff were friendly, courteous and professional.

Meals: The Dinner menu was uninspiring but expensive ( but Zürich is an expensive city). We had the pea with ravioli as well as the spinach and tatar of salmon soup as starters. Although one understands that both vegetables are delicate in taste, they still would have been better seasoned. These were quite tasteless. Our second was Viennese Schnitzel which was rather greasy and had no taste at all!

On the other hand the breakfast buffet as well as a-la carte was just right. It was nice to see that there were no hot plates with food cooking away for hours on end. If one wanted a hot meal, it could be ordered from the a-la carte menu. There was a choice of bread, jams, preserved and honey, organic yoghourt, cereals, pastries and cold cuts. There is also a brunch on Sunday.

Our suite Nr. 22 was fantastic. It was very large, stylish and functional. As well as spacious living spaces it also has a fully functional kitchen which would be lovely for families with young children. We also visited room 8 just to see what a standard rooms looked like and found it absolutely lovely too. There is some construction on the street behind the hotel but this is not heard or visible from all rooms. Therefore it would be advisable to ask before booking. The only negative is the tram and train which could be quite noisy, especially if you like to have open windows. We were in Zürich on a cold and rainy week end and therefore could afford to keep the windows closed. But we did not noticing air conditioning and wonder how it would be like in summer when it could get very hot and one might want to have natural ventilation. They might have air conditioning which we did not notice. I am sure the management will comment.

But we would stay at the Greulich again and recommend whole heartedly.

Room Tip: Suite 22 and room 8

We had requested an early check-in. We were told that they would try to accommodate our request. We were pleased to find when we arrived that our request had been accommodated, and our Superior room was ready. Unfortunately our attempts to rest was thwarted by construction right outside our window. We asked how early the construction started, and were told 7:30. We asked if they could change our room. We were told yes, but would have to wait until after 3:00 pm when other rooms would be ready. We went out and when we returned we were pleasantly surprised to learn that we were upgraded to a suite. It was a beautiful apartment with a lovely view. The rooms were immaculate, the bed comfortable, and quiet.

We had lunch at the hotel. The food was excellent. Breakfast was light, but there was a variety. The staff was pleasant and very helpful.

We would definitely recommend this hotel, and look forward to staying there again.

The Greulich is probably mostly known for its design. The rooms indeed are stylish, cool, yet kind of cosy. It's like an island in lively Kreis 4. But what I liked even more was the friendly atmosphere, the individual service. I'll definitely be back! The only thing that might be an issue is the noise from the railway line nearby. Therefore, I'd book a room facing the yard - and bring some earplugs just in case...

This was a fantastic hotel, the staff were over helpful and the hotel was super cute. The only problem is that it is to far from everything. There is nothing around and you have to walk 10-15 minutes to get anywhere. The room itself was cute and small. It looks like a small ibis hotel room but a bit more modernised. The showers are tiny but has good water pressure. Because the hotel is so far away from everything i ended up getting room service for every night i was there, which is very expensive. The menu at the hotel is also so so... On the last night i was so sick of the food i ended up getting a delivery. they defiantly need more variety on the menu.

All in all its a cute hotel but for me its not close enough to the centre.

Room Tip: Ask to stay in the main building

my husband and i enjoyed a children free weekend, told them with the booking that a quiet room to the garden is a must, we booked standard room and late check in. .when we got there they upgraded us to superior. the room was clean and spacious like a flat, modern and comfortable. we went out late, but hardly got sleep. the sound of the passing trains just outside disturbed us enormously. we asked for the room we had booked, which expectedly should be quiet. we were upgraded also for the garden room, which was inexpeted! the place was more than expected, well designed and very stylish. we liked it even better! the food in the restaurant is of superior quality, we can recommend it warmly. breakfast was offered so the parking fee to make up for the hassles we had had. when we needed recommendations for shopping, eating, transportstion or welless/ spa, they were quick, helpful and aimable as well as reliable. overall: we will be back for a next time!!

Style, comfort and great service define the Greulich. I would have given more stars were it not for the poor location.

We stayed 4 nights here in one of the suites. Again fantastic essentials. What we hated was the neighborhood. While we liked the notion of a residential neighborhood, what we did not expect was that the hotel is within the red light district. Instead of lots of boutique shops and local restaurants there were lots of strip bars. So if you're not with toddlers this might be ok for you. The restaurant is nice with wonderful "small plates" but if you stay several nights you may want to enjoy a room service menu that is less "molecular" again, if you have kids.

If sight seeing is your thing expect to take a cab everywhere. Cabs are VERY expensive in Switzerland. If you have kids remember that car seats even in taxis are required so another pain if staying here with kids.

Ratings are relative. If with kids, tourists from abroad and staying several nights, find something else..
