“A nice find in Zurich”
Reviewed 10 April 2011

EMA House is partnext to an apartment complex and the rooms are primarily "oversized" guest rooms / suites with separate work/living and sleeping areas.

Location if fairly good, within walking distance of Zurich Hauptbahnhof (main train station). The walk to the hotel is about 10-15 minutes uphill. One can also catch a tram and be there in less than 5 minutes as there is a stop right in front of this property.

Staff at check-in were very friendly, validating everything about my stay and providing me with an overview of the services / amenities. As my room was not 100% ready upon arrival, I was upgraded to a different room type. Size-wise, the room is extremely lareg by European standard. This particular unit also featured a kitchen between the living and sleeping area but use of it was not included in my rate. Given the price, this would be a somewhat affordable long-term stay option.

Everything in the room was in working order / well-maintained. Bathroon was also fairly nice with lots of space. the only thing that I found a little disappointing is that the decor is rather simplistic/basic - so the room although spacious also had that "no frills" feeling to it.

Internet is available but I found it to be quite unreliable on my smartphone (WIFI) (This was actually a problem throughout Europe as most hotels used the same service - SwissCom - which is extremely unstable, at least on a North American BlackBerry with WIFI enabled). Fortunately, there is a small meeting room with a computer which serves as a business center. It's not free but was afforable by Swiss standards.

The highpoint is the complimentary continental breakfast - delivered to your room! Most normal eatesr would have more than enough with the display of cold cuts, cheese, juice, hot drinks, yogourt, cereal, breads and spreads. I ordered (extra) scrambled eggs which was not necessary and overpriced. The breakfast was delivered on time (starts as early as 6:30) which was important as I needed to catch an early train.

The bed was not the most comfortable (thin, firm) but still provided me with a good night of sleep. The room provided did not offer any particular views of Zurich, which would probably the case with most rooms anyway as they are on lower floors.

The hotel is closed to the "old" and touristy part of Zurich

All in - highly recommended and tremendous value

What a perfect hotel! I booked a junior suite but we were upgraded to a one bedroom suite. We had two roll-away beds in the main room and two twin beds in the bedroom. It was a very comfortable arrangement where each of us had our own bed, important for teenagers! We had a balcony overlooking the river and a beautiful kitchen area. The hotel was immaculate and the staff very friendly. This was the perfect hotel for us!

The breakfast served in our room each morning was a true treat! It included rolls and croissant, jams, hot chocolate, fresh fruit, cereals, meats, cheeses, juice and coffee. A friendly woman delivered it and set it up on our kitchen table overlooking the river. A truly lovely way to start the day.

The location was excellent. Trams 11 and 14 are located directly across the street and zipped us to the Hauptbahnhof in less than 5 minutes. The alternative was an easy 10-15 minute walk.

We will definitely stay here again when we visit Zurich...which we hope will be very soon!

We stayed for 2 nights during January 2011.
Finding reasonably priced accommodation in Zurich isn't easy but there are deals around for EMA House. The Junior Suite is more than big enough for 2 and breakfast in the room was a real treat. Trams stop just outside, although its only a 5-10 minute walk into the Altstadt (Old Town).

A full sized apartment, livingroom/dinning area, office area, galley kitchen, bedroom with of course a queen size bed, and a bathroom with a seperate tub and a shower. It is incredibly well maintained and clean. One of the best perks is roomservice breakfast. At the hour that you choose you get a fantastic continenital breakfast. The lobby and the hallways are all granite which gives the public ways a cold feeling but the apartments, which they are, are nice and cozy. The front desk is not manned 24 hours a day so they give you an entry key. It's a 10 minute walk to the baunhauf and downtown. I would definitely stay there again!!

Despite having lived in Zurich for 20 years, I never discovered EMA house until I came back as visitor. Great value for families. Had a very spacious, clean apartment for my family (2+2), in a great location just a few minutes walking to the main station or the old city. Alose very convenient from the airport. Will definitely use again.

Excellent hotel which lives up to previous trip advisor reports. The location is good, a tram ticket was included in the weekend price and the stop is right outside of the hotel, particularly useful on a cold wet winter’s evening. The room was spacious and well equipped. The package did not include use of the kitchen which was slightly irritating, with a family it would be well worth trying to secure use of the kitchen, there are plenty of great supermarkets nearby and the price of meals out in Zurich is expensive. The bathroom is spacious but we could not get the bath to fill, the water supply was limited so we relied on the separate shower. The breakfast was good, and delivered promptly, reception was also helpful. The internet charge was high, unacceptably so when rooms could so easily be connected to wifi for free. Generally though, an excellent choice.

The hotel tried to charge an extra 45chf a night saying that we had only booked for one person. After clearly producing all my correspondence that confirmed I had booked for two people they accepted my documentation and accepted the quoted amount. So keep all your documents as it does not confirm the number of people staying on the hotels confirmation.

The rooms are very large and quite well appointed. The hotels is also very conveniently located about 5minutes from the main station and outside a tram stop. The breakfasts are fantastic and quite a treat as they bring them to your room.
