“Decent Hotel, Perfectly located in the center of the city”
Reviewed 7 November 2013

My honest feedback is as below
1. Bigger rooms are limited, I was lucky enough to get a bigger room which was nice, So be sure to confirm the room size before checking in the hotel
2. Breakfast - Since I am a complete vegetarian there were limited vegetarian options for me in the breakfast, so if you are vegetarian better not to prefer this hotel
3. Convenience - The hotel is conveniently located in the center of the city and hence you can get convenience easily to connect to different places in the city.

It was a last minute call to Zurich and due to tourist season was unable to get a room in any other hotel but except Olympia. Thankfully a room was vacant on second floor, after completing the formalities, I got the keys. I was really tired after hours of flight and this place was not providing any sort of comfort. Room was clean, quite spacious for a solo person like me but the furnitures and even the carpets were outdated. There were hairs on pillow as well. I even complaint to the guy at front desk to either get the room changed or get the service done- no response for hours and then a lady came to change the covers and sheets. So much was I irritated that even thought of leaving the place but left with no substitute stayed back. Food was okay but very limited and price- very high compared to restaurants outside. Just dined once from the hotel and was not at all satisfied. The place could have been much better considering the high price they charge. Look for other options if possible.

Zurich is an expensive city, so miserly though I am even on company expenses, I ended up with the Olympia. I've been here before and knew the location, an easy but nevertheless twenty minute plus journey into town by tram. You don't have to wait long but it still takes time.

Anyway, the hotel is what you might expect for the price off-center Zurich. It's rather "compact": i.e. don't expect much space, but its rooms are minimally fitted, clean and functional and reasonably quiet on the off-street side. Tram noise still pervades, as does that from the car workshop in the backyard.

If you want breakfast, it's about CHF16.50, which seems steep but actually is not bad value compared to the numerous lesser alternatives in the vicinity. All depends how much you eat at that time of day. If not much then CHF10-11 buys you a nice breakfast of roll, croissant, juice and (a single) coffee at the Stoller just up the street.

A word to the staff, who were varied, friendly and helpful - it does make a difference, so appreciate it when you get it!

Room Tip: Further back, further up!

My wife and I and our two children stayed there for one night. We had a big familyroom with a big bathroom, and were quite happy about that, but that was the only thing to be happy for. The service and the facilities wasn`t imressing. Everything costs money, and it seemed that they only wantet to earn money.

Looking at the other reviews I am starting to think my standard of cleanliness may be too high as I thought that although the sheets seemed clean, the carpet and bathroom were clearly not. The room was tiny, with very dated carpet which on close inspection revealed hairs. The bathroom was also very small with pubic hair on the tiles and in the shower.

Very, very noisy. Noise of street, surroundings, church bells, hall ways, other guests clearly audible from within our room. Ear plugs are a must.

The duty manager at the time was incredibly rude when the cleanliness issue was brought to his attention. He asked if he could inspect the room himself, of course we let him. Then as he stared at what was clearly pubic hair in the bathroom he simply shrugged his shoulders and looked at us in a manner as if to say "so what?" then repeatedly said "yeh and?" as if there was no issue at all.

Then when we argued that pubic hair in the bathroom and hair on the carpet was not acceptable levels of cleanliness we were basically accused of making the mess ourselves since we had been in the room for a few hours. Our bags were clearly not even unpacked. All we had done for those few hours was sleep due to being absolutely wiped out as we had just arrived to Zurich on an overnight bus from Prague with zero sleep. Normally we check a room thoroughly before settling in but were to tired this time around and opted for a quick nap instead. The pubic hairs in the bathroom were only discovered when about to have a shower after which the issue was immediately brought to the managers attention. Clearly the rooms are not adequately cleaned.

The duty manager charged us 100CHF to cancel the reservation and further threatened that it was within his right to charge us for the entire 4 night stay even though we left by 3pm the day of check-in and did not even spend the night to due the obvious unsatisfactory condition of cleanliness.

Avoid at all costs.

Room Tip: Find a different hotel.

We unfortunately came to be booked into this hotel as part of a package - there were two conventions in town so hotel rooms were scarce which is why I guess we ended up here.

The only positive I can give you is that the room was clean (in the most part). But sadly that is all. As others have stated, there is no soundproofing - it was like the people in the next room were standing next to us.

The room was very small, cheaply decorated with the bed pushed up against one wall making it difficult for one person to get in & out of bed when the other person is asleep.

The sink was not in the minuscule bathroom but in the bedroom. No matter how careful you were shaving, washing your hands etc it is impossible not to get water on the floor - which is why I assume the room smells of damp (mixed with cleaning products).

The bathroom was so tiny it had a toilet & a shower & was not much bigger than a wardrobe - you virtually had to climb over the toilet to get in and out of the shower - not very safe....

The carpet & the chair was stained

The lobby was dated & shabby & the location was also not the best - grubby low end side of town - at least 8 stops on the tram from the centre of town

Would never stay there again

It's an OK hotel, though I would probably look for a different one next time. My room was clean, beds were fine, and the bathroom was tidy too though very tiny. The room smelled like an appartment of a hevay smoker that have been cleant afterwards but not suficciently ventilated. I had to open the window to let fresh air in though you can't really sleep with an open window due to the tram line and general traffic.
Some signs of age in the room. Sqeaking floors. No European sockets (bring your adaptor with you!)
Walking distance 20 minutes to decent pubs and restaurants - just follow the road; 30 minutes to the central station.
All in one not bad but not impressive either.
