Lombok Lodge
Ranked #2 of 16 Port Shepstone B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 7 November 2011

When you first approach the Lombok Lodge, you are aware that there is something different about it. After a moment, you realise that the roofline is far from traditional, and that there is a hint of the far east about it. This impression is reinforced once you get into the lounge, where you are greeted by a plethora of furniture and artworks imported directly from Lombok in Indonesia. The effect really works, because it is not a mix and match of styles, but a fully realised look and feel.

This is further enhanced once you see the rooms - beautifully decorated with wall hangings and furniture, all from Lombok.

The rooms themselves are very comfortable; we had the upper floor room at the end, so we had an uninterrupted view of the ocean, and could sit on the open balcony and watch the Humpbacks and Southern Right whales playing in the sea. You are not right on the coast; the Lodge is just off the main coast road, and you are up on a hill a few hundred yards from the beaches, but the views are lovely.

The heart of the Lodge are the owners, Jan and David - an exceptionally friendly couple, very interesting to talk to, and for whom nothing is too much trouble. The breakfasts are wonderful - fresh, tasty, and every day something a little different to titillate the taste buds. They take service to a whole new level, and many other B&B owners could learn a thing or two from them - their customers are the most important thing to them, and they clearly enjoy what they do.

Location wise - you are outside of Port Shepstone, which is a short drive away. The advantage is that it is relatively quiet and peaceful; the downside is that you have to drive if you want to go out to eat. However, you need to drive anyway - there are some beautiful beaches in the area, and you really should go and see them - the blue flag beach at Ramsgate is excellent. There are lots of places to eat in the area, and Jan and David will give you their recommendations - and they are good ones - you have to try The Cellar!

Thanks for your hospitality - really enjoyed our stay! Say hi to Smee for us! :-)

Room Tip: Upper level rooms have the best view.

Lombok Lodge is perfectly situated to relax and enjoy the lush tropical surroundings and the sparkling waters of the Indian Ocean. The soothing crash and roar of the surf completes the picture. The Indonesian inspired super comfortable rooms all come with large patios and full views of what makes this coastline so appealing. Sunsets and sunrise are spectacular. Owners are truly determined that your stay will be special and memorable. They are helpful and friendly in every way possible. Breakfast is a delight and of superior quality. Sadly we only had one night at Lombok Lodge as we would have enjoyed staying longer. As travel agents we highly recommend Lombok Lodge.

Amazing views, gorgeous beaches, beautiful rooms, comfortable beds and scrumptious breakfasts! Nothing is too much to ask of Jan, who literally devotes every moment and ounce of energy she has to her guests. She gets up long before dawn to prepare fresh fruit salad and to bake delicious pastries. Hot breakfasts are made to order. The cappuccinos top it all off.

Jan and Dave traveled to Lombok, Indonesia to purchase the furniture and accessories and have created a very special place on the South Coast. This B&B is, without question, the best in the area.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights as it was convenient for visiting the Oribi Gorge. Jan & Dave are very welcoming and friendly and have done a fantastic job in creating their beautiful b&b. The top level rooms have excellent views of the Indian Ocean. Excellent breakfasts.
