Reviewed 25 June 2007

We woke up on Saturday morning and felt like getting away from home for the weekend (I have been travelling a lot over the last few weeks
and the wife and I needed to spend some quality time together). We didn't want to travel too far and St. Michaels-On-Sea is quick 150km from our home in Durban.

A quick check on the internet ([----]) and we came across Fairways Guest Lodge, gave them a call and a few minutes later, after a very pleasant chat with Janet, we were booked in for the night. Later that
afternoon we jumped on our motorcycle and by 5pm were at Fairway.

Firstly the place is easy to find as it is well signposted from the main road (R102). Secondly the Lodge is pretty big so you cannot miss
it! We were met by Dave, who is a really friendly chap. Within 5 minutes we were shown to our very comfortable room that had a nice view of the sea. (the lodge is about 300m from the sea). We were given the Lilac Room and it is pretty big. The bed is covered with a down duvet which is really cosy in the not too cold south coast winter! Made for a nice pleasant sleep especially with the muted sound of the ocean in the background. The bathroom is neat and tidy with a double shower, nice!

A quick cup of coffee with Dave while we enjoyed the view got us warmed up again! Dave and Janet are originally from the UK and have been SA for about 30 years. They are recently "retired" and have chosen to take a quieter life on the KZN South Coast - lucky them! Luckily for all of us, they have chosen to run a guest house and they are really good at it. They are warm and friendly without being intrusive which is exactly what we needed.

They do a brilliant English breakfast; cereals, fruit, bacon and eggs, yummy! For dinner, there are many restaurants in close vicinity and Shelley Centre, where you catch a movie and dinner, is 2 minutes away.

All in all a nice getaway and highly recommended!
