Saw this hotel on the internet and liked the description and pictures. Arrived after a 3 hour drive to be directed to our room in the coach house. Quite a dark dismal interior. My wife asked at reception if there was an alternative and was shewn 3 similar but worse rooms, one had the wallpaper pealing off the wall. Beds that night were very damp. Shower hose sprayed everywhere, bathroom about 1.5 mtr wide. Decided to check out after a bad breakfast, cold scrambled eggs and none of the tables cleared. Had booked 4 nights @ £184 dbb per night. Receptionist very helpful on checkout and arranged an immediate refund apart from £84.

Stayed July 2007

Stayed 3 nights in July. Very imposing building, quiet location, large room adequately furnished, friendly helpful staff, breakfast good, dinner looked good on the menu but over-priced & under-flavoured. All this sounds pretty typical so what's wrong? Nothing serious, it's just that the hotel has a rather tired feel about it, maybe the management has got a bit complacent, e.g. my room clock didn't work properly & one of the bedside lights didn't work at all. Both got fixed but why didn't they find & fix them first? And the paintings in the halls & stairs were ghastly!

We stayed here for a wedding which took place locally. It was a 4 and a half hour drive to get to Lamphey so arriving at the hotel was very welcome! The room was quite nice, with a view over the car park at the front, and across to the village itself. The room had everything you would need without unncessaries (i.e. no fuss). The bed was comfy and the bathroom was a good size and clean. There was plenty of storage space. We ordered room service (sandwiches) which was nice, if a bit pricey for what they were. Breakfast was OK, the service was a bit sporadic but the cooked breakfast itself was fine. You could help yourself to cereal and fruit as well and there was a sign saying you could ask for meats and cheese although I didn't see anyone who did. The health centre was fine, the pool a little small but the gym was good, it is good to have use of something like that. Our room wasn't made up by housekeeping when we were out, which was very annoying, but the manager knocked our extras off our bill in recompense which was a nice gesture. Overall, a pretty nice hotel, could do with a bit more pezazz to make it worth writing home about.
