“An idyllic cottage in an idyllic location”
Reviewed 27 August 2017 for a stay in August 2017

We spent a week at Butterslade Cottage towards the end of August and we felt right at home from the start. The cottage is located on a working sheep farm and has been beautifully and lovingly converted from a barn. It's open-plan with a very well-equipped kitchen (with plenty of cupboard space and every utensil that we could possibly have needed), a nice sized lounge with a large sofa, two chairs, a freeview TV and DVD player, a dining area to seat up to 6 people, a spacious bathroom with shower and two bedrooms - one double with views out to Rhossili Hill and one on the mezzanine level up the stairs with twin beds. Our children absolutely loved going up the iron staircase to their cosy room! The cottage was much larger on the inside that it looked from the outside and it was the perfect size for a family. We could park the car right outside the front door and we were just a few yards from the farm entrance/exit. There was also a laundry room with a large freezer just alongside the cottage, but we didn't need to make much use of it. The location was also ideal - about 45-50 minutes from Swansea, half an hour to the lovely seaside resort of Mumbles and literally 5 minutes the other way to the beautiful beaches at Rhossili Bay. If you do go to Rhossili Bay, do bear in mind though that there is a VERY steep climb down to the beach and obviously an even steeper climb back up. There's also a bus stop literally just outside the farm, with regular buses (the 118 and 119) to Swansea and there are several footpaths leading out to the various bays and beaches. The nearest convenience store is just short of 2 miles away at Scurlage and is very well stocked (also has a cashpoint). There's also a good fish and chip shop there. There are plenty of scenic villages on the road between the farm and Swansea, so there's plenty to see, whatever the weather. Kaye and John are friendly and helpful hosts and very knowledgeable about the local area (and the best - and worst - pubs, restaurants, etc.!). My family absolutely loved our stay at Butterslade and we would certainly go back there again.

“Alright”

The cottage was in a great part of Wales but not much cupboard space, the stair case was dangerous had corners sticking out, although I must say the host was very friendly

Sorry you did not appreciate the original stairs kept for the character of the cottage and hope it didn't spoil your 2 night break. Kaye

“Charming, cosy, clean and comfortable cottage”
Reviewed 4 July 2017 for a stay in June 2017

The moment we turned off the Swansea to Mumbles road it was like stepping back in time. Empty roads, pretty white cottages, tiny churches, leafy valleys smelling of garlic and stunning empty beaches.

The cottage was easy to find on the edge of a working sheep farm with room to park the car right in front of the door. There is a bus stop right alongside.

Owners Kaye and John were friendly, available and helpful. Kaye even did some shopping for us. She persistently and effectively badgered BT to sort out unfortunate wifi issues which was a fault affecting the whole local area.

The main bedroom is rather tiny but attractively decorated with an extremely fresh and comfortable bed. There is another twin bedded room up an open metal staircase (not suitable for our little dog or presumably for young children)!

Sumptuous leather three piece suite on a patterned 'easy to live with' rug covering a wooden floor. The shower worked well and the open kitchen had everything we needed for simple meals. We didn't need to check out the laundry room.

Shopping was no trouble. Best apples I've eaten for years in the tardis like supermarket in nearby Scurlage. It is open from 8 til late every day. There is a chemist across the road there too.

The narrow roads are not suitable to walk along safely but there are plenty of footpaths and the Coastal Path is only a couple of fields away.

We hope to return soon for a longer stay.
