We made a booking for 16 people and was accommodated in the cellar dining area on trestle tables. We all chose the £15.50 two course set menu which had a fairly wide choice main meals and dessert. Considering there was so many of us, the food was delivered to all at the same time, piping hot and huge portions. The beef & Stilton Pasty is superb and highly recommended. My wife had the Ploughmans and was without doubt the largest we have ever seen and an amazing selection. If you are in this area, dining here is a must. It was very busy and we had pre booked our tables, may be a good idea to do the same so not to be disappointed. Highly recommended.

We stayed as a family group at the pub's camp site and had an excellent evening meal after a day on the the nearby cycle trails.
The menu was extensive and the food was fantastic. Personally my Steak & twice cooked chips with all the trimmings was as good as I've ever eaten ! Others had home made pies, fish & chips. Good traditional pub food, but very well cooked and enjoyed in a friendly atmosphere.
We will certainly visit again.

As a party of 8 we ate at the Royal Oak for 3 consecutive nights while staying at Hurdlow Grange. Each night we found the food and service to be very good, even when very busy on the Saturday evening. There is a good selection of local beers and wines are well priced. The menu is extensive and should cater for most tastes with highlights being Barnsley chops, a selection of pies and fish & chips. Portions are large! If we had one criticism we would have preferred the chips to have been a bit crisper but it's a relatively minor matter. Other vegetables were cooked well. Highly recommended.

Went here twice. First time was for Sunday lunch. We rang up an hour in advance and were able to get a table nevertheless the pub was packed when we arrived. The interior has been recently refurbished to a good standard. The young staff provided really friendly efficient service both times we visited.

Sunday lunch provided huge portions of lamb and pork with well cooked vegetables at a reasonable price. A nice choice of desserts. Plenty of real ales, and they are happy to let you try before you buy. They also have a wide range of spirits (no fewer than 5 types of Gin for example)

Second visit was initially for drinks after cycling the Tissington trail from Parsley Hay but we got tempted to have tea as well. I had the Steak and Stilton pie which was both huge and tasty. My partner had Thai green curry which although perfectly nice wasn't in the same league. By the time we left at 6.30 on a midweek afternoon the restaurant was starting to fill which was a testament to the quality of the food.
