“Great Weekend.......”
Reviewed 18 May 2014

Camped here for two nights (Friday and Saturday), We were in the lower field which was not over crowded, the views here are amazing, it is very peaceful, and well kept, there was one area where campers had stayed and not cleared there mess up, but other than that the camping area is perfect. the toilets and showers were both clean and in full working order, on the Saturday we had a meal which was great value for money, very tasty and fresh (Pie of the day), the staff were friendly. On the Saturday night there was a local farmers party which was noisy but we had been prewarned. Will definitely be back....Great place..

“Lovely pub, shame about the food!”
Reviewed 10 May 2014

Camped here whilst a 200 strong Polish biker rally was taking place and although this didn't bother me, when it came to using the 2 showers that were available on-site this proved impossible unless you were willing to wait all day for one! Ended up not washing (not my favourite past-time). The pub had a lot of character and was lovely but I agree with a few other reviewers that the staff weren't the friendliest (but again this didn't bother me too much). I was at a surpirse 40th along with 70 other guests and there were 2 people on (and off) the very small bar. This led to queuing outside the door and then a stag do turned up! We ended up eating here the following day and I was very disappointed when my fish and chips came out and the fish looked like it had come from Iceland (the shop, not the country) the chips were sweet, but the mushy peas were okay.........definately wouldn't eat here again but would be tempted to go back to sit in the lovely surroundings with a drink......if the service was quicker and friendlier, and if the drinks weren't so expensive outside of a party!

“Great food, friendly staff”
Reviewed 20 April 2014

We stopped here early sat evening without booking.

The staff where friendly and helpful. The food , whilst freshly prepared arrived within 20 minutes and tasted perfect. Two ribeye steaks, tower burger and steak sizzler all arrived cooked correctly to our requests. Homemade chips and vegtables properly cooked without being over done.
All of this with an open fire, dog friendly ( all dogs stayed on the tiled part of the floor) and brilliant atmosphere.
We will be returning

“disappointing”
Reviewed 6 April 2014

i'll try to be constructive..
olde worlde dusty over stuffed with repro tat
cushions and sofa covered in dog hair
(I own a dog and love him but in a pub where i'm eating dogs should be ON THE FLOOR)
food was average but usual £10/meal prices
despite asking where we should sit & being directed to a table - whilst we were sat eating waitress put a sign on our table saying it was reserved from 45mins from now = she didn't even have the courtesy to discuss this with us - simply put on the table and walked off.
it was freezing in there!
I will not be returning
