How do you combine 3 celebrations involving an 18th, 60th anniversary and a 1st birthday party for 23 people - the answer is to hire the Crewe & Harpur!
We have just returned from a 4 day stay and we have had the best family gathering ever. We hired the pub and one cottage and there was plenty of space for everyone, babies and children included. The accommodation is lovely, all the rooms in the pub are of the same high standard, all with very stylish en-suites, whilst the Calke cottage was very comfortably furnished with one shared bathroom.
The bar area was very popular with everyone but also the lounge was perfect for those who wanted to relax and also for the younger children to play. We stocked the bar ourselves apart from the beer, which we ordered and it went down very well to everyone's delight.
The kitchen area has plenty of space, with 2 large fridges, a large chest freezer and an industrial size oven which was big enough to cook food for everyone at the same time. We arranged a Sainsbury delivery, which arrived at the allotted time, which made catering for so many much easier.
The bar area inevitably was the main attraction and we all enjoyed playing darts, dominoes, games etc. I would suggest you take your own set of darts with you, as we did.
We did have one minor maintenance issue,(a blocked shower) which was quickly resolved and this was much appreciated. Also, the staff at the Royal Oak were brilliant in co-ordinating the booking and were very helpful in sorting out our individual requirements regarding sleeping arrangements and in answering any queries we had prior to our stay.
The Crewe & Harpur is situated in a beautiful part of the Peak District and it really is the perfect place to stay for a few days with family and friends.
Thank you so much - we could not have found anywhere better and we look forward to a return visit in the future.

This is the best place you can ever go if you want to have a prty and a good time with your friends. It's completely self-catering the poor reviews are from the previous owners who ran it as a pub. Just try this place and I guarantee you will love it.

We would have no hesitation in recommending the C&H to others or of returning again sometime.
We were planning a special event for around 30 guests; the C&H is perfect for this.
The whole team was extremely helpful prior to our event, they answered all our questions and accommodated our requests to look around.
All our guests commented on the 'perfect-ness' of the venue and were very impressed by the quality of the rooms and facilities.
The kitchen was well equipped with pans, serving stuff, crockery and cutlery.
The beer was supplied in perfect condition.
Overall BRILLIANT!

My boyfriend and I have just returned from a stay at The Crewe and Harpur with family and friends to celebrate our 30th birthdays. We are still on cloud 9 and can't get over what an amazing place the Crewe is for a big occasion.
Before we even booked, Paul and his team were amazing. We viewed the Crewe in person before we booked, which was reassuring and helped with the planning process. I probably inundated Janet, Rachel and co with emails leading up to the weekend away and always had a prompt reply, they were so helpful!
We hired the Crewe and all 3 cottages. The cottages were lovely, especially the modern kitchens and character living rooms. The cottages provided extra space for those travelling with children, but on the whole we all ate, drank and socialised together in the Crewe.
Where to start with the Crewe?! We all arrived on the friday, and once everyone had realised it was OUR pub it didn't take long before we were all behind the bar mixing cocktails and pulling pints from the kegs set up for us by Paul and his team. The bar area was the focal point of our weekend. The fridges behind the bar stocked all of our drinks we'd brought from home. The iPod dock and jack for the iPad meant we had our own 'jukebox' on the go - hilarious what songs start getting played as the night goes on! The dart board was in almost constant use.
The snug area and loads of seating and tables made sure everyone had a place to relax and catch up over a drink.
The living room was huge and had lots of comfy sofas, although the lure of the bar meant we didn't use it that much, the kids made good use of it though and had the karaoke machine set up every night - the most plush 'playroom' I've ever seen!
The kitchen is huge and set up as a working kitchen, perfect for catering for large groups and EVERY dish/pot/utensil you could ever think of! The amount of food you can fit in the oven is unbelievable! We had a pizza party on the friday, and the pizzas for 33 people all fitted in together - amazing! We made Sunday dinner for 33 (the food was prepped by caterers, we just popped it in the oven, so minimal fuss), and we all sat down to eat together. Again, the whole meal fitted in the oven together!
The bedrooms in the Crewe are all lovely, and the bathrooms are beautiful! Everyone commented on the comfy beds and quality of the sheets and towels. We had room 5 which is very special with a gorgeous huge bath!!
The Cottage bedrooms are 'cosier', as they would be in a cottage, but charming nonetheless, and I don't think anyone was disappointed with their room.
I can't imagine a better place to have a weekend away with family/friends where there is the space for everyone to socialise together in a relaxed way. We feel so lucky to have found the venue and can't wait for the next excuse to book it!
Thank you thank you thank you so much to Paul, Dominic, Janet, Rachel and everyone else who helped us have an amazing time, including the lovely ladies who came by to prepare for the next guests on monday morning, they do a fantastic job! We look forward to returning, and may try out one of your other stunning properties next time. Oh, and thanks for our lovely lunch at The Royal Oak before we went home on Monday, definitely recommend!!

Room Tip: Room 5 has a big bed with a canopy, and a big bathroom with both shower and massive bath - treat you...

My partner and i were looking for a venue that would allow us to bring together our two families in a relaxed, fun and beautiful location. We certainly found this at the crewe. From the second we started the planning we were impressed. The staff where helpful and efficient. The crewe was clean and well equiped. Even the sun shone when my husbsnd and i tied the knot in bakewell. We did our own catering with some help from m and s and the family loved getting involved in preperations. Everyone thought it was the best wedding after their own and i would recommend doing it this way. Everyone was able to relax, chat and laugh , the crewe provided fabulous accomodation
. Room 5 was wonderful although the ridge in the middle of the bed was uncomfortable. The village comes to life at the weekend and the fish and chip shop was lovely. We couldnt have wishef for a more perfect day. If you need a venue to have a large get together wr would highly revommend this venue.Thank you to all. Lisa and inness.

I have used this venue twice now for 30 people each time and dont have anything to complain about. It's not open to the public but for just your group which makes it a great experience. The bedrooms are decorated with such great quality and the kitchen provides everything you need to cope with cooking for such a large group. There is plenty of fridges for your alcohol and plenty of space for your friends to escape with the living spaces in the cottages. My friends love this place and I highly recommend anyone to take over this venue as you will not be disappointed. Cost is great for the size and market it's open to.
The village is lovely and walks in the area truly beautiful.
Paul and his team are fantastic and I find the whole process easy. I recommend booking far in advance as this venue is popular and gets booked up very quickly.

Booking the Crewe was so smooth. We went for a hen do and it was the perfect accommodation for a large group of different ages. The rooms were of a very high standard and the communal spaces were large, clean and comfortable. I will be booking again!!
