My fiancee and I stayed here for a couple of nights in October.

After a poor night previously in a chain hotel we were in the mood for something a bit better and truly found it here. We booked one of the larger rooms at £80 a night B&B (contrary to some of the prices I'd seen on the net).

Room was average size but done out nicely with a very luxurious bed and a flat screen/ sky digital combo, possibly scope to add somewhere to store a suitcase but otherwise very good. Bathroom was miles from the decorating by numbers affair in the other hotel. Underfloor heating was a very nice touch, along with good shower and a bath which could probably house most of a rugby team.

Food was exceptional, as you'd expect from somewhere with its own fine dining restaurant. We ate in the bar although this didnt stop us chosing from the restaurant menu - the staff we were friendly and accomodating. Wine list was a bit pricey - but it would in any case be rude not to have sampled some of the peak district ales on tap.

In summary its a bit pricey compared to some others but well worth it if you fancy a couple of days in luxury while in a position to travel anywhere in the peaks for a day trip.

A very mixed package. We stayed in the most expensive room which was very comfortable with a fab bathroom (albeit with some small plumbing problems), but...the room was situated above the kitchen with a noisy heating vent outside the window and with a generally unacceptable level of plumbing and heating noise and noisy door banging. There was a lot of clutter in the corridors. This is an old building that is dificult to adapt to the luxury market. At £130 per night the room has to be spot on, and this was not.
We ate in the 'restaurant' the first night. We ordered a mixture from the bar and the main menu, though there seemed no diference in price or quality between the two. The starter was excellent, the main course and puddings were poor. My partner's main course was the wrong order! The portions were ridiculously small and the dishes pretentious. Breakfast was limited and below average b&b standard.
This is neither a gastropub (too expensive) nor a quality restaurant (not good enough). The owners have invested a lot of money in this venture but need to pay more attention to the smaller details.
Great walking area by the way!

My husband and I recently stayed overnight and really liked this hotel. It was great to get proper service with a really friendly manner. The room was clean, but a bit sparse - the lack of anywhere to put your case when you are only staying overnight and don't want to unpack is a pain and we really missed bedside tables. The bed was incredibly comfy and the bathroom a luxurious use of space. The TV set up was exceptional - though we didn't get much use out of it as we found it hard to tear ourselves away from the bar and resturant. The food was excellent and there's a good choice of wines. We would happily recommend this hotel to others.

The Crewe and Harpur Arms is set in some of the most beautiful countryside in England, and with Derbyshire on the doorstep it is well placed for exploring the dales and moors nearby.

The accommodation itself almost lives up to the pictures on its website. The room we had was well appointed with a large comfortable bed and a huge flat screen TV, but not much else. Unfortunately the rooms don’t seem to be very sound proof though, as we could hear voices and the TV from the room next to us. There also wasn’t much in the way of mood lighting (except of course the bright red fire alarm light in the ceiling, and the gap under the door to the well lit corridor, both of which shone plenty of brightness into the room all night).

The highlight of this hotel has to be the bathrooms. Ours really was excellent, beautifully tiled with a huge bath & shower, and very relaxing for several long soaks – just what you need after a long day of exploring!

The one other thing worthy of comment is the food which we found to be delicious. We decided to eat in the hotel each night, and were pleased with the quality and presentation of each dish. However when it came to settling our bill at the end of the weekend we had been overcharged. It was over a week before the hotel admitted it was their error and we were promised a refund. Six weeks on and the refund still has not materialised despite several emails and phone calls which now seem to be being ignored.
