This hotel is an ok 3-star hotel. On its website, it is presented as a 4-star luxury boutique hotel, which it is not. It is also over-priced.

Although location is great, the reception/bar area is great, but the rest of the hotel has absolutely nothing luxurious to it (and I am not particularly picky). The furniture in the room looked cheap, the room did not have a practical lay-out, with the bathroom light switch behind the door, an awkwardly small space to enjoy your shower if you choose to use the shower curtain, and the room was generally worn down.

Choose another hotel that provides value for money.

The roman ruins and the breakfast buffet are straight out the very best things of this hotel. The ruins are fascinating and the buffet extensive and welcoming. The buffet was fresh breads, jams in individual jars, fresh meats and cheeses including salmon most times, eggs, bacon, fruits, yogurt, Danish and rolls. Breakfast with Roman ruins-great! Small, dated rooms and awkward shower placement. Also, if you have a hard time stepping in the shower, not the place for you. It is a big high step to get in. All hard wood floors and the walls are paper thin. You can hear people in the square from the second floor on the back side, not for rest. The location is superb. I would not stay here again.

A nice Hotel in the centre of Maastrischt. The bed was however a big let down, 2 single matresses combined to make a queen size is not what i expected. Me and my partner always fell into the gap whish was a nuisance!!
Great restaurant, food was very nice and the service superb......

Derlon is a nice hotel, but thinks way to much of itself.
For instance: an expensive superior room in a 4 star hotel (on the building they even call themselves 5 star) should have a wardrobe which you can put your clothes away... not just a small open space with a few coathangers. Having to shower in the bath is okay, but not with a flimsy shower curtain which (as ever) does not keep the floor in the bathroom from getting wet. Things like that let the hotel Derlon down.
Also, we had booked for 3 nights, on a non-refundable offer. Unfortunately, we had to cancel the first night due to illness. They charged us the full 3 nights, which is fair enough. But when we asked to at least deduct breakfast, all they told us was that they were legally within their rights to charge us for breakfast as well. Which is perfectly true, but still not a very nice way to treat your (returning!) customers...
All in all, if you have money to spare, do go to the hotel Derlon - the beds are good, it is clean, the breakfast room with roman remains is special, and the location is great. But don't expect too much.

Room Tip: The rooms on the front offer a nice view of the square. I would recommend those - if you don't m...

This review is based only on having visited this hotel and not staying in a room. Great restaurant with a menu offering a nice variety as well as lovely wines and unique appetizers for big & small. Dining with a view on the square. Perfect location to explore Maastricht.

A lovely hotel, right in the centre on a lovely little square next to a beautiful church. Our room faced the square which was very pretty as the Xmas lights were still up. The room was perfectly clean with all the little touches you would expect. The staff were helpful and spoke very good English. The breakfast was a buffet but there was nothing you could have wanted that wasn't there, from hot food to slices of ham and cheese, different breads, cereals, pastries, champagne and strawberries! The restaurant was on the lower ground floor where you can see the Roman ruins. The hotel was central and it was very easy to walk to various parts of the town including down to the river where we took a very nice boat trip to St. Pietersberg Hill. There is a lovely restaurant at the top of the hill which you should definitely visit. Our stay was too short and I would definitely go back again.

Room Tip: We were in 103 which looks out onto the Square and was opposite the little restaurants. We used two...
