To visit the caves we went walking from Maastricht city center to The caves of Saint s Peter. It is a great chance to discover the great view of that city far from the center. It is more charming than words can describe. it takes overall 30 mn as you can have a breakfast near there at "coffeelovers" a nice place where all locals meet.
As for the caves, You will spend 1 wonderful hour. It s cool inside, Our guide
( Dominique ) was very helpful, kind and funny same time, He gave us lots of important information about that site and answered lots of questions.
You will learn a lot about Maastricht and its history after the tour.

Katja (not sure if I spelled that right) was an amazing tour guide! The caves are very fun to walk around in. I especially liked when we got to turn off all the lanterns and walk in the pitch black for a bit. I definitely recommend visiting the caves in you're in Maastricht. You get to learn a lot of history as well.

The caves in Maastricht is a must see attraction. The tour guides give a wonderful interesting guided tour of how the caves were made by man, and how big a role they played in the history of Maastricht. Bring a sweater on a Summer day.

We visited the caves' English tour at 2:00 on a blazing hot day in August after having first toured the fort above. We entered at "Grotten Nord", the North entry to the caves. The cool temperature was a blessed relief from the blazing hot day. Any other time I would have needed a jacket while inside, but on that day the hour long tour gave me just enough time to cool down and thoroughly enjoy the informative tour given by our humorous guide, George. It was a very interesting tour. George gave us a lot of historical information and made sure we stayed safe during the hour we spent inside the cool old limestone mines. He also gave us the opportunity to walk in total darkness for a bit. Afterwards we took a break on the terrace of the restaurant and had a nice iced tea. I would certainly recommend this tour any time of year because it was "cool" in many ways other than the temperature.

Walking in the dark of empty caves it's not really appealing unless you have a guide cracking jokes all the time and give you a very useful insight to this humid place.
