Not sure what Mr Copenhagen is on about. I thought this was great. So clean. Rooms are all styled but not over the top. Bed was so good I struggled to get up in the morning. Power in the shower. Decor and taste throughout the whole building. Kitchen where you can grab a tea, coffee, and maybe a cheeky beer - complimentary. And Franka the hostess with the mostess. Sorry if I've misspelt your name Franka, you were so welcoming and friendly - thank you. Did I mention the breakfast? That was fantastic too. And parking. And flat screen TV. And...

Room Tip: We had room 3. It was great. Didn't see the others.

We stayed here 24-28 December 2010 as we were visiting relatives for Christmas who lived nearby. The joy of stopping over here was of course highlighted by the season and snow all around but I cannot rate the place highly enough. Lovely, spotlessly clean rooms, warm, private and the decor and furnishings are first class.
For a guest house in a lesser known part of the Netherlands, you could not ask for more. Top marks to Franka for creating a gem!

This is Breda's best kept secret!! What a gem. We were looking for reasonably priced middle of the road accomodation with the odd perk and thats exactly what you get here...and more!! I was unsure after reading some reviews regarding the fact that someone was not always at the hotel. But in truth it was just fabulous to have a key and come and go when we pleased!! We didnt call ahead and there was someone there. There is also a phone at the house that goes stright through to management and they are never more than 10 minutes away!!

Franka is the amazing manageress..she spent 20 minutes with us giving us a tour, making sure we knew how everything worked. She gave us bikes for free and gave us maps with all attractions/shops/bike parking facilities on. There is a lovely communal kitchen with free coffee machine, beer and diet coke. There are alos facilities if you want to cook something up quickly. We had room 8 which had a HUGE balcony overlooking the big oak tree at the back it was so so nice. Sat out there at night and enjoyed the Hot Chocolate. The room was a little small but as we had such a big veranda we just opened the double doors which gave us double the space.

The hotel is a short ten minute bike ride to the centre of Breda and we enjoyed the use of free bikes immensely. Would definately reccomend this place to all my friends!!

The building is an old mansion which has been completely renovated by the owners, as can be seen from a photo collage in the reception area and several newspaper articles in a folder in the room. The renovation has been very successful: the hotel has a lot of style and gives one a true mansion feel. All public areas as well as the rooms look new, clean and well maintained, and facilities are modern while still classy. Our room was not very big but also definitely not small. The bed was comfortable with a lot of pillows. The bathroom, while a bit cramped, had a nice and spacious shower cubicle, and was also very clean.

The location of the hotel is reasonable but not great. There is a bus stop with regular service to the city center at a five-minute walk, but on a sunny day one can just as easily walk the entire distance. The hotel is situated at a major road, which does result in some traffic noise for the rooms at the front of the building.

The owners are the only hotel staff but they do not live in the hotel building. This means that the hotel is not normally staffed outside of office hours, so if you require anything you need to call them first. We did not experience this as a problem at all, and whenever we did need something there would generally be someone there in about 10 minutes who would be very happy to be of assistance. The absence of staff actually results in the feeling that one is at home, which is further amplified by a nice communal area with a big television, your own key to the hotel, free use of certain kitchen facilities (such as a fridge, the microwave and the cutlery), and all kinds of free drinks (including several varieties of coffee from a machine, tea, soda and soup).

The breakfast buffet was really nice, with a lot of options. In addition, the owners would try to accommodate any special requests.

There was a free internet connection available through a long cable hanging in one of the corners of our room, which obviously offered superb stability and speed as compared to wireless internet access. Parking facilities were available behind a closed gate on the hotel’s private grounds.

Strong points: cleanliness, service, free internet, free drinks, good breakfast, nice atmosphere, use of basic kitchen facilities.
Weak points: none.
Depending on your point of view: hotel not staffed 24/7.

I arrived quite late at this little 2 star hotel that was booked through a business contact. The room was quite nice and stylish - although the bath room was extremely small. I could literally rest my head on the sink if I sat on the toilet...

TV with a range of channels - mainly Dutch but a few international ones as well. No Pay-Per-View...

Bed was very comfortable and plenty of pillows (which I like). One thing to mention here is that the room was quite cold when I arrived so I turned up the heat - but the heater was at the head end of the bed... It's not really nice to sleep with your head "resting" on a heater.

I found a wireless hot spot with the name of the hotel - but as there was noone in the reception (the reception was unmanned late) I had no idea about the login etc. Besides that the signal strenght was bad...

Breakfast was fine - nice bread and a good assortment of cold cuts, cheese, etc.

The location is near the centre of Breda. The price is very good for the service you receive by return. Free usage of a secured parking, bikes, extra large beds and coffee/tea facilities. Perfect!

Fantastic in every way. The converted mansion is charming. You feel right at home immediately. The owners and staff are welcoming, professional and by the time you leave you will feel as though you have new found friends.
My husband and I stayed in room 7 which has a private covered terrace. The rooms are beautifully appointed and extremely clean.
We travelled throughout the Netherlands, Belgium and spent a romantic stay in Paris. Scheepshuys was our "home away from home" the entire time.
For a small cost an elaborate continental breakfast is laid out each morning and you eat to your heart's content. The dining area is an addition which was carefully thought out so as not to change the original charm and architecture of the building.
As family would, you have a key to the hotel and you can come and go as you please.
The modern kitchen offers wonderful "treats" for the weary traveller. Espresso, hot chocolate, etc is available at no extra charge from an amazing vending machine. A chocolate or cookie to enjoy with your beverage is also available. With a fridge at your disposal you can venture to a local grocery and store your supplies.
The beds....oh the beds, are incredibly comfortable. After a busy day of sightseeing you literally melt into a cozy nest of a bed. We immediately researched where we too could purchase such a bed.
Nothing is overlooked by the owners, including parking spots behind a gate that is locked at night but your key always gives you access.
The entire building has all the original charm of its day. As a side note, the original owner of the mansion owned the "Hero" factory which was across the street. My mother remembers cycling down the street when she was a child. This added a lovely note to our stay.
My husband and I sat out on the terrace each evening which allows a view of a magnificent oak tree beautifully lit each night.
Whether you are staying for a weekend or an extended stay your will be delighted to have chosen Scheepshuys.
Our stay was truly magical.
