Description: You will find Michelin-star restaurant Sense across from Het Noordbrabants Museum, at walking distance from St. John's Cathedral, on the Verwerstraat in ‘s-Hertogenbosch (also known as Den Bosch). Chef de cuisine Dennis Middeldorp puts pure and always fresh ingredients together to make surprising and subtle taste combinations. Experience the team’s honest hospitality, an ideal way to round off a visit to one of the most beautiful town centres in Brabant. “Orgasmically good” To our great surprise we received a Michelin star three years after we opened in 2008. Sense is also featured in the 2016 Gault&Millau guide and the Lekker Top 500 (Tasty Top 500), the leading Dutch restaurant guide. Of course we are proud about these reviews, but our primary ambition is still to allow our guests to enjoy exciting dishes in an uncomplicated atmosphere. For this reason, we are even more proud when our guests give us feedback such as “Orgasmically good!” and “Enjoyment with a capital E”. Different dishes every month You can order the smaller culinary dishes on the menu in a random order, but you may prefer to allow yourself to be surprised with a four to eight course gastronomic menu. These dishes are different every month, inspired by the changing seasons. “When I am creating a dish, I want to bring together the essence of different flavours in a composition that will fulfil and delight. Flavour, colour, texture, the atmosphere in the restaurant: everything has to be just right,” says Dennis. Sense welcomes international guests with an English menu and multi-lingual staff. Experience ’s-Hertogenbosch After an inspiring visit to Het Noordbrabants Museum (with of course extra attention for the works of Vincent van Gogh and Den Bosch native Jheronimus Bosch), a spiritual experience in the world-famous St. John's Cathedral, an adventure by bike or on foot in the marshlands of Het Bossche Broek or a historic canal cruise through the town centre on the Binnendieze, you will be able to relax at one of the tables and enjoy your meal. You may even have a similar experience to the guest who concluded the following: “This restaurant deserves a second star.”

“Thoroughly enjoyable”
Reviewed 16 May 2014

For groups of 6 or more, you don’t order your food. The chef asked what you do not like and they then arrange the evening meal around all the food you do like. Even though some people did not like sea food, that didn’t stop the chef’s preparing sea food for the rest of the group. At no time did they give the incorrect food to the wrong person.
You will also receive a different wine with each course which I particularly like with an expert review of its character, taste and originality.
To be honest, I can not remember all the courses and what I ate, as each plate served resembled a blend between a current work of art and gastric fusion.
I would highly recommend this restaurant for larger groups to enjoy a completely different and enjoyable meal out. Just try and remember what you have eaten.

“A Michelin Star restaurant you can understand”
Reviewed 15 April 2014

This restaurant is really worthy of its Michelin star. It has a modern, but cosy interior, with colorful paintings, spheric lights, and comfortable seating. The service is excellent, and the Chef is personal, and warm hearted. On our first visit we brought a cousin, age 15, who wanted to take a peek at the kitchen. The Chef hospitably invited us to have a look. It was small, but open, so we could see almost everything. It was very tidy, and the young team was working in an orderly fashion. The food was presented in a Michelin star way, every dish presented like a piece of art. It was very delicate, molecular style cooking, however, this Chef understood that, to keep in touch with reality, each dish was created with a mix of molecular taste versions of ingredients as well as an original version of the ingredients. E.g. you did not only taste a mousse of pumpkin, but a well cooked bit of pumpkin as well. In this way you not only have tastes of certain ingredients, but the real texture as well, something that is not realized in many Michelin Star restaurants. The deserts were unforgettable! We have recently returned for our wedding anniversary, and will return many more times for sure.

“The big tasty!”
Reviewed 19 February 2014

Distinct and superb food in an elegant restaurant opposite the central North Brabant museum. Every single piece served is fresh and full of taste. We had heard a lot about Sense before our dinner at this restaurant and it surely did not disappoint us. On the contrary!

“Nice cuisine, but staff needs better training”
Reviewed 11 November 2013

Nice cozy restaurant in the central part of Den Bosch. Reservation recommended, but we didn't have any problems booking a table one day before our dinner.

Small tasting size portions, but don't make our mistake of ordering a 7-course tasting menu, unless you ate nothing for the last couple of days... However small they are, 7 is just 2 too much. I couldn't even try one of the latest ones...

Overall a very nice impression. Being greeted by the chef himself is a really nice touch. And a true chef he is :)))

Two minor glitches with staff: a quite pretentious waiter and being abandoned by sommelier while he was presenting the wine as he went away to greet a client who has just walked in.... That you wouldn't normally expect in a Michelin star restaurant.

“Great food, nice chef, staff could improve a bit”
Reviewed 30 January 2013

My wife and me ate at Sense for the first (and definitely not last) time last Saturday. We had a great night! The restaurant is nice and intimate, I think the maximum number of people they can serve on an evening is 30.
After we installed ourselves at the table and received some small bites on the table, the chef came to welcome us and explained the concept of the restaurant. Serving smaller portion dishes, you can choose your own combination of hot and cold, or be surprised by a 3-7 course surprise menu. We chose a 5-course surprise menu and were very happy with what we saw on our plate. As usual in a Michelin starred restaurant we got a couple of nice fish dishes to start with and then two courses with first duck and after that angus beef. Quality was very consistent throughout the meal. I ended with cheese and my wife with a sweet desert. Accompanying ones were very tasteful as well.
Only point that can be improved is the way waiters take away plates after each course. They ask you if everything was ok, which you don't need to do in my opinion if you're taking away empty plates. And if you still want to do it, then at least give the guests the intention that you are interested in their answer to this question. Other than that, a great night! We'll come again!
