We went to Gartine for lunch. It is very close to the flower market, a 10 minutes walk from the Amsterdam museum if you are using the hop-on-hop-off boats or buses, and about a 10-15 minute walk from Dam Square. The location is not great; it is on a small side street with not much going on. But the food is absolutely wonderful; we had open-faced sandwiches and the 3 of shared a (huge) lemon meringue pie. By the time we finished lunch and left at around 1.30, every single table was taken, so I would strongly suggest you make a reservation.

Everything is fresh, prepared to order and is done with meticulous care. Gartine uses fresh squeezed orange juice like so many other cafes in Amsterdam. The presentation is also quite artful. I had the yogurt with muesli. It tells you it comes with mascarpone and honey. Well, it's blended with a lot of mascarpone and drizzled with honey. It was kind of like eating tiramisu. I was aiming for something on the healthier side, but it was so good that I did not care.

It is a small place and we were there right when it opened. All tables were taken within 30 minutes. The two people working there were very nice as well. Could not have had a better breakfast for out last morning in Amsterdam.

Great place for light breakfast/lunch with teas, cake and sandwiches. Not a 'real' breakfast place if you are from the UK/US/Australia, but everything is nicely prepared, local, fresh and the service is friendly.

My wife and I recently ate at Gartine. It was a little difficult to find, but well worth the trouble. We had the fried prawn sandwich, beet root soup, garden salad, tea and ginger beer. The food was excellent and the service was superb. The waitress took the time to write down the name of a local organic market that sold the ginger beer, and then gave us directions. This is a very small cafe and we were lucky enough to get the last table at lunch. I strongly recommend making reservations. Our only regret is we discovered the restaurant the day before they closed for their seasonal three week vacation. Don't miss this gem.

I am so happy to have visited Gartine!

It is a lovely and small restaurant with probably 7 or 8 tables. The staff was tremendously kind and the food was phenomenal! I had the creamy split pea sandwich, which was amazing; I've been thinking about it non-stop since . My boyfriend had the lamb meatloaf sandwich which he enjoyed.

The ambiance and aesthetic of the place is really pleasant. They serve their food on lovely mismatched china and the whole place feels beautifully curated.

Highly recommended!
