“What a friendly place!”
Reviewed 20 June 2011

We arrrived at the Blue Sheep, only to find out that there had been a false voucher issued to us by our Travel agent back in South Africa, and that we, infact, didn't have a reservation for two of the nights we were meant to stay at the Blue Sheep. Luckily Nouvella came to the rescue, putting us up for the first night, and making a hotel reservation for us, and negotiating payment with the agent on our behalf. There isn't anything much nicer you can do for two lost foreign tourists.

When we finally settled down at the Blue Sheep, we had a wonderful suite that was clean and spacious, it felt more like an apartment. Our bedroom had large windows, and every morning we woke up with a marvelous view of the street and the beautiful surrounding buildings. It didn't feel like a hotel at all. We felt like we were part of the neighbourhood.

The breakfasts deserve special mention. Lots of scrumptious dutch breads( and all the fresh orange juice you can drink) and coffee you could smell all the way upstairs. The best thing about it was shearing a big table with all the other guests, and getting a chance to get travel advice or some cultural insight from the hosts. I definetely will go back there next time I am in Amsterdam.

Just spent two short nights at the Blue Sheep on our honeymoon.
From the second we walked in the door we were greeted with smiling happy faces.
The house, and the rooms are beautiful. But there is a steep staircase to the rooms, so wouldn't recommend if you have mobility issues.
Novella is absolutely lovely, breakfast was DELICIOUS and the conversation around the table just as good.
In a great spot too, walking distance from the Centraal station, and only a stroll to most of Amsterdam's sights.
We would definately recommend the Blue Sheep, we loved it!

I highly recommend you stay at the Blue Sheep when you visit Amsterdam. We stayed in one of their fully equipped apartment which was down a peaceful street right in the centre of the city, within walking distance of many of the major sites. The staff are extremely friendly, welcoming and accommodating, and I felt very relaxed and at home there.

This place is just lovely, the location, the fantastic hosts and all the other things that you can read on here about the blue sheep... I am truthful when i say none of the reviews lie, it is exactly as described... and more. Please don't waste your money on the large chain hotels, just treat yourself to this simply fantastic B & B. We had a wonderful 4 nights here and would definitely go back... We met some great people at breakfast and I laughed so hard I think Edgar thought we had eaten 'space cake' for breakfast! Sending them our best regards and thanks for making our holiday so bloomin marvelous!

I had a wonderful stay at The Blue Sheep. Not only was the food fresh and chosen with care, but I also liked how the family, who runs the b&b and shares the space openly welcomes strangers and cares about their needs. Be it "rent a bike" or "how to get around", "where to shop or dine" etc. The house is small but well looked after, the two tiny dogs have a great heart and the atmosphere I found very cozy. It´s probably not everyones cup of tea to have to go downstairs to the bathroom, so elderly watch out (narrow stairs). If I go to Amsterdam again I make sure I can stay at The Blue Sheep.

We found the Blue Sheep through tripadvisor and checked their website - exactly what we looked for. Novella, the owner, was there when we arrived and showed us her house. Its right at the Single in a very quiet lane, you can get anywhere by foot. The house however is old and has a remarkable story.
Our room was on the 2nd floor, the stairs are small and steep, but no problem. I loved the interior of the bedrooms and the bathroom, which is all a combination of the original and modern materials.
When booking you should be clear about living together with a family and sharing their space in the living room/kitchen. We loved it, but if you want a hotel - stay in a hotel!

Thanks to you Novella for the lovely weekend, we'll be back! A+R

After two years I have been a second time with my family at the Blue Sheep and I am still fascinated by the friendly and nearly private atmosphere. A creative interiour design in the center of Amsterdam.
