We stayed there for 3 nights and first booked it because of the location and the affordable price.
We were more than pleased with this guesthouse, the interior design is very nice, and the room had everything we needed. Bed was very comfortable. No need to say you can't get a better location (just check it on googlemaps and you'll understand!).
The only little thing that wasn't perfect was the shower, it didn't drain properly, but that was no big issue.
We liked the fact that breakfast (ham, cheese, butter, jam, fruits, fresh bread, tea and coffee) was actually ready everyday in the room (breakfast table / coffee machine / kettle and food all in the room). So there is no pressure (you can have it whenever) and I enjoyed the privacy (being able to have breakfast in my pyjamas!). Also, we could make coffee or hot tea even in the afternoon after walking in the cold or in the rain (or both!). :)
The host, Ken, is really nice and flexible. He let us use the room even late in the afternoon on our departure day, as no one was coming after. So we could leave our luggage in the room for the day and have another hot coffee before leaving!
PS : we picked the cheaper room that doesn't have the view on the canal, and which only has a very small window and no view. But if we could have afforded it, I would have definitely gone for the one with the canal view! It would have been great to wake up and have breakfast while watching boats and bike going along the canal...

Myself, my wife, and my cousin all stayed on the ground floor two nights last fall, and our whole experience could not have been better. The very large room has sliding doors
that separate the two sleeping areas with a sitting area with couch and coffee table. We were very comfortable. The whole place was spotless and Ken is an awesome and gracious host, as well as a very talented artist.
If we ever get back to Amsterdam we will definetly return to the Amstel Canal Guest House!

The Amstel Canal is situated in a great location overlooking the canal. Close to bars, restuarants, shops. The trip was with 5 friends for a 40th birthday celebration and the guest house for perfect for such an occasion, we had both rooms one on the ground floor and one on the first floor with superb views of the canal. The rooms are decorated to an excellent standard and are maintained and cleaned to a very high standard. The guest house has an excellent feel to in and creates a relaxing environment. The kitchen is well stocked with fresh products for breakfast and if you want a bite to eat for lunch.

The hospitality of the owner Ken was first class who made you feel welcome and at home, nothing was too much trouble and he was only to glad to offer advise if asked on where to eat and visit.

Ken truly made our visit memorable and played a huge part in all the party having a fabulous time. Will definately visit again.

Would certainly recommend The Amstel Canal to others.

Ken , our host could not have been more friendly and welcoming , despite our late arrival. 3 of us (mother and sister) stayed in the large ground floor room. There is a larger beautifully decorate double bedroom with plasma tv, couch and table. Then a single bed with a couch in a large adjoining room. This can be separated by sliding doors. The space is large, bright and welcoming.
Ken could not have done more – even sneaking down to the kitchen to endure the heat was on there for when we got up! He had even left a bottle of wine and fruit out for us on our second night.
Breakfast was plentiful and lovely coffee. The location is great for all the usual tourist attractions, but the area around the accommodation also has lovely restaurant, cafes and bars.
We spent half our time talking about how great the accommodation was, and really didn’t want to leave. This is the type of place and experience you hope your online booking will turn out to be.

we had the most wonderful stay at the amstel. it is far more than just an appartment, it is owned by the lovely ken who made us feel so welcome. He has will give you advice on where to go if you ask him and cleans the appartment every day to an amazing standard. When I told him it was my thirtieth he put a lovely bottle of red wine and cookies in the room, and whilst we were there we had two fresh bunches of flowers. The kitchen is very well stcoked with food for breakfast, but plese remember it is an appartment not a hotel it is make your own breakfast and the shower room is along the corridor not attached to your room. The appartment has the most gorgeuos views over the amstal canal, and is in a great location. It is withing walking distatnce from everywhere and epsecially close to the rembrant area . .. The room really is amazing we stayed in the appartment for two he also has one on the lower floor which is bigger. You really must stay here fo the price no where else could compare.
