My wife and I had a great stay at De Baronie. The rooms are large and airy, we stayed twice and both rooms had a great view of the Canal. The windows opened which helped us regulate the room temp. Beautiful house with some great common areas. Tuhami is a great host, he helped us out with coffee the first morning and was very helpful. We will definitely stay again.

I found this B&B on vrbo.com which is a site that I frequent when preparing for international travel. I was excited because I had never stayed in a B&B before. After several weeks of what I considered careful consideration, I decided on De Baronie B&B. The first letdown was when I arrived and the owner came to the door followed by a dog. Because I have a fear of dogs (of any size), I hesitated which the owner noticed. I explained to him that I was afraid of dogs. His exact words were, 'Well you'll just have to get used to him 'cause he lives here'. What kind of way is that to speak to someone who is renting from you?! His page on VRBO says that there are no pets allowed yet there is a dog living on the property. His listing also claims to have a full kitchen yet the guests don't have access to the kitchen. I rented the suite which is only equipped with a kitchenette. I was also told that the suite included a private bath. The bathroom was not private. The bathroom is not even in the room. It's across the hall from the room AND has no lock on the door. Anyone could easily walk in. After talking things over with my travel partner, we decided to leave. I had asked how what percentage I would have to pay if I decided to cancel. I was told that the entire cost would be due just like at any hotel. I explained that most hotels would only charge you for ONE night if they decided to cancel, not the entire stay. Even after I said, 'okay' and that we would stay he continued to go on about how he could have rented to someone else and that he would be losing money if he didn't require the total due. About a half hour after going to our room, we decided to leave because I was completely uncomfortable with the entire situation. Fortunately, I hadn't yet paid for the visit because he didn't have a credit card machine. I sort of felt bad when we slipped out, but at the same time I didn't because he misrepresented himself and his property. That made our contract null and void and I owed him nothing. I got an email from him later that day telling me I had two options. One was to send the "balance" by PayPal. The second option was that he would charge my credit card plus an extra 10%. I wonder just how he would do that since he doesn't have a credit card machine. I would never recommend this property or any other property owned by this man. I was completely disgusted by him and his treatment of us. We ended up staying at the Swissotel in Dam Square. I'll write a separate review for that stay.

The Bed & Breakfast De Baronie was our first stop in Amsterdam and it was such a welcome surprise! It is located in a traditional Dutch canal house that was built in the 1600's. VERY CHARMING and the staff was WONDERFUL! We stayed in the suite and it was 4 times larger than most European hotels. We had an entire floor of the house to ourselves and the furnishings were very nice! We had a beautiful view of one of the canals from our room as well! Tuhami (the owner) was very helpful (I think he speaks 6 languages) and will cook you lunch or dinner at your request (in addition to breakfast)!

I would highly recommend the bed & breakfast De Baronie to anyone who would like to stay in a traditional Dutch building and experience the AMAZING hospitality of the Dutch people!

We were fortunate to tour this property last week while renting a flat around the corner from the same proprietor. I will definitely consider making this my next choice for accommodations when I return to Amsterdam. It is beautifully restored and appointed. The host is charming and affable, as is his dog. There are a variety of rooms (6, I believe) ranging from a single that shares a bath to a full family suite with a small kitchenette. The views from this corner building are of the port and a canal. (The flat we rented was equally well cared for and the host's service was great.) A note for those new to Amsterdam: pack sensibly and realize that you may have to tote your luggage up very steep and narrow stairs if you choose to stay in an historic property. (It's worth the climb.)

This newly opened B&B in the centre of Amsterdam is a real gem! It feels like you are staying in a museum. Fantastic! My girlfriend and I enjoyed this romantic property with its delicate touch and service. A real must for qualityseekers. Don't forget to let the owner cook you a fine meal. He is one of the best! Bravo!
