We stayed in a nearby B&B and ate twice at this lovely restaurant. One of the older places in Amsterdam and very popular with locals. It overlooks the water and is at the edge of the Jordaan, one of the more laid back neighborhoods. Staff was very friendly and the food was excellent at a reasonable price. No tourists a this time of year and only 15 min walk from Central Station. Would definitely go back and recommend to friends.

We booked ahead to ask for a nice table to celebrate my birthday and the manager/chef Olav wrote back straightaway promising me a memorable meal and birthday. It certainly was that! We crossed a picturesque white drawbridge and entered this delightful, non-touristy restaurant, greeted immediately with "Happy Birthday"! There were not a large number of tables which enabled personal, excellent service and advice from our French waiter. I had the scallops and duck breast, my husband had steak and we both felt our food was outstanding. My lemon tart dessert arrived with a flaming sparkler and Happy Birthday was sung in French, German, Dutch, and English! This fabulous restaurant clearly has an international reputation and clientele who value food that is cooked with great care, commitment, love, and pride. I found Olav in the kitchen afterwards and thanked him for a terrific dinner and celebration. He loves his restaurant and chooses staff who share his commitment. The location is a ways out of the centre but took only 15 minutes or so on the tram and it was great to be in an historic area, the restaurant was once a 16th century warehouse. Very relaxed and informal place to eat and we never felt rushed or that our table was needed for the next group of diners.

My husband and I discovered this restaurant many years ago from a Cadogan book walking tour of the Western Islands in Amsterdam. Not only is the walk to the restaurant immensely charming, showing you a hidden gem of an area (gardens, rabbits, few tourists, virtually no shops), the food is incredibly good. We've eaten there in autumn, winter, and summer, all equally good. The menu changes every few months, I think. Truly an excellent restaurant (and I've eaten at many good ones in New York and elsewhere). Worth the walk!

Only an interesting 10 minutes walk from Amsterdam west city center (Jordaan area) to the 'islands' of the city (Prinseneiland, Bickerseiland, Realeneiland) for an instant village feel in this historical shipbuilding and ancient harbor area.
Very relaxed atmosphere of locals and tourists for a drink or 'bistro' inspired 'homemade' food. Fresh and authentic and with care for ingredients and its origin. Inside you will find the Amsterdam cafe feel, outside on the lovely terrace the sun, if available, until it sets.

As a vegetarian you do not have much choice for the main course, but hors-d'oevre and desserts have more options. The menu is regular changing according to the season and ingredients available. So it is a good idea to check the website or like them on Facebook to receive updates. Price is reasonable according to the quality. The vegetarian meal I enjoyed has been very delicious and my friends who were on the meat/fish side enjoyded theirs as well. The location is bit far away from the tourist area, but can be reached by bus from Amsterdam Central station.
