We ate here with friends many years ago on our last visit to Amsterdam and were delighted that this place was still going and had hardly changed. You are best to book if possible as it is very popular and gets very busy, so we dropped in the night before to reserve and we're told up front we would be sharing a table, which was fine. The people we shared with were very nice as well. The whole place is small and cosy, the staff were friendly and efficient despite being flat out! We shared an entrecôte and fondue, a combination I recommend as it was delicious. It may be another 10 years before we are in Amsterdam again but I hope we get to dine here again. Remember your cash as they don't take plastic.

Small and cozy place with the best fondue and entrecôte. Not easy to find the place because the name is written with a very small and transparent font so check the address before. Don't forget to reserve a place before you go there. Very recommended!

We recently visited Cafe Bern for the second time on a return trip to Amsterdam to celebrate my wife's birthday. This was a meal we had been anticipating for a couple of months because we had enjoyed our first visit so much, and we were not disappointed!

As before, we split a single order of both the fondue and the entrecôte. The fondue is served with a nice bread and is as good as any we've had in Switzerland. The entrecôte, however, is a standout. It is served with a delicious herb cream sauce in which to cook it on the hot plate- as has been discussed on this forum (and was explained to us the first time we were there) it is a secret recipe with more than 20 herbs and spices. Dill is definitely one if them, and it goes very well with the beef. The entrecôte came with a small salad which was served prior to the arrival of the steak and fondue. It was nicely dressed and again was enough to share (the server asked if we wanted a second portion but a few bites of salad each was just fine). There was probably 180-200g of meat which is plenty for two, with the fondue. Add a cocktail and a couple of glasses of wine and we were quite content!

The atmosphere is cozy and livelyand seems like a good mix of locals and travelers. Make reservations because it is usually booked solid for dinner and there is no lunch service. We look forward to our next visit!

Came here on a Thursday evening...it was raining outside and we didn't have reservations at 7pm, but they said we could sit at the bar. Unless you have reservations I suggest this is the latest you go, because a few more people tried around 7.30 and 8, but there were no spaces.

We ordered the signature steak and fondue combination, which also came with loads of bread to break up to dip in the fondue. The fondue and steak came on a burner for you to heat and cook yourself. Along with a couple of De Konijks, this was a thoroughly filling and enjoyable meal. I've never had fondue before, and I don't know why...it had very reasonable prices as well. Recommend!

You will need to book a table or be disappointed. Went in January and was packed and needed to reserve.

Shared some fondue and cook at table steak. Tomato salad on the side.

Insanely tender steak that has been sealed on the outside and you cook to your liking with a pesto sauce. Fondue is fondue which is to say amazing. Plenty for two people and good value. Staff very helpful with using the heaters for dishes and how to cook the steak best.

Add in a couple of local beers and you're made.

Inside it doesn't look like much but don't be put off. Seemed like mostly locals which is generally a good thing. Ideal place to eat before venturing into the red light district
