“Convenient, Trendy location - Brilliant staff!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 August 2014

The staff at this hotel make the stay special. Very helpful, pleasant and polite from arrival to departure. We were travelling by motorcycle and pavement parking directly outside the hotel is free, although we wouldn't have known unless informed by staff. If they hadn't told us, we would have paid for street parking!

Rooms are spotless with very cool and trendy decor and design. Slightly lacking in storage space but otherwise lovely.

Tram stop is conveniently located about 50 metres from the hotel and tickets can be bought at the bar. The bar staff are very knowledgeable about the many city attractions and how best to get to and from them.

A great location for an Amsterdam visit.

Room was efficient, spotless and .
Staff was knowledgeable, quick and friendly. Good value. Convenient to tram. Parking right in front. Nice bar. Bartender was very helpful, kind, and took the time to steer us in the right direction to visit the city center.

Stayed here in late July 2014 and I absolutely loved it. As a solo traveller, the room configuration did not bother me at all. The bed was huge and very comfortable. The shower was a dream. My room was super clean as well. Loved the AM and PM body wash in the shower, and the mood lights made for a nice evening atmosphere. lol. The mood pad was a bit annoying as it would never settle properly in its cradle and so was always low on battery and beeping. Loved that there were movies on demand for free and wi-fi was free as well. The hotel has a great modern atmosphere throughout, including a pretty good bar on the ground floor.

Some people complained about the location and the fact that it is not in the centre. Well, everything cannot be in the centre, and even though this is on the outskirts of the city, there is a tram stop just in front of the hotel, which is quite handy; as well as the Amsterdam Zuid station not too far away as well. It is very good for airport access as you can take the train from Schipol to Amsterdam Zuid, which is just one stop away via the metro.

The service was exceptional here as well. The team are always on the ball and always ready to lend assistance, from assistance with the room to transport advice. Great, great staff.

My only "negative" comment would be on the price that one paid for a continental breakfast. It was a bit steep, I found. It was about 12 euros per person per day or something like that. I would have appreciated my breakfast being free, especially if it is merely a continental, or at the very least, cheaper than 12 euros. I also hated having to go downstairs to the back room to iron a shirt, as there are no irons in the rooms, but I guess it went with the concept and it was not a dealbreaker.

But my citizenm experience was great. Really made my stay in Amsterdam lovely. It may not be everyone's cup of tea but the hotel website pretty much tells you what you're gonna get.

Travelled from UK to stay for 5 nights and i must say i enjoyed all the nights and the little time that i have spent at the hotel, wether it's in the bar area with the staff or in my room. Firstly the area where the hotel is located (Prinses Irenestraat, next to Zuid Stn.) is really quiet and at first it will give you the impression of being outside of Amsterdam. Wrong!. The area is actually VERY near to transport as well as tourist attraction. The Amsterdam Zuid stn. is just 2/3 mins. away and can get you to Schipol in 6/7 min. The only tram that goes by the hotel is the number 5, and let me tell you this, you don't need any other tram. You name the place where you want to go and visit the tourist attraction and this very tram will take you as near as possible. Dam Square is 10 min. away whereas VanGogh museum and Rijskat museum are 5 min. away, as well as the royal place being 12 min away. all of this is from the hotel. Another positive is the hotel allows you to rent a bike from them for the whole day at no extra cost, and this allows you to travel even deeper into the Amsterdam city and have a glance at other quiet and pleseant places in the city. Restaurants and supermarkets are within 5/6 min by tram too, so don't need to panic.

Upon arrival at the hotel you'll get complimentary drinks of your choice and a handy map which until this day i used and it's extremely helpful.

Staff, what can i say more, they're truly amazing and extremely, extremely helpful. They're always there to help you and although it's their job they will also go that extra mile for you to get maximum satisfaction. I mean if you ask me which one was the best i will be able to write down at least 8 staff names that are equally the best at what they do and provide for you. The sleep is amazing as it's out of the hassle and it's very comfortable with free-movies and channels from other countries too. There's a safe area to place your valuables with a password. Whilst the floor with the rooms are quiet all the time, down at the bar the fun just begins when you think it's getting near the time to go to bed.

Food at the hotel is quite a bit expensive, the breakfast is at 14 euros and lunch/dinner is 12 p.p. However it's not a buffet but they will have absolutely no problem in you helping yourself with more than one plate of meal. In the bar, you name it and you will get it within minutes.

- Downsides, well the only the downside is that the rooms aren't the biggest but are spacious enough for couples with a baby (in our case) and my parents felt comfortable with my baby brother, so it's not as bad as some of the other reviews make it look like.

There's space for bags but not too much, however the shower and the bed is super comfortable as well as the massive wall-to-wall window that provides you with great sunlight. You will have a 'moodpad' which basically does everything and you control the whole room with this remote control basically. Let's you swith on-off the lights, tv of course and as well getting down and up the curtains.

Overall my stay was amazing and this hotel is very much recommended to couples and families that wants a hassle-free hotel but a place which is 5-10 min away from all the tourist attractions in Amsterdam. Can't stress enough how much you'll enjoy your stay here.
Will comeback to this hotel whenever i go by Amsterdam. You get an extra 15% too for your following visits at any CitizenM hotel. :)

Room Tip: Choose the city view, which allows more sunlight and of course a better city view. Nothing wrong a...

On the positive side- good location with easy access to airport and to trams to centre. Reception staff speak good English and are extremely helpful. Public areas are quirky but pleasant.
On the negative side - room is very small no place to put stuff. You can't get out of bed at the sides, no lights next to the bed, shower is very slippery, the centre tips and is wobbly and dangerous also under the but that tips it's very dirty and it keeps dripping uncontrollably in the night. There is a gap between the bed and window which is full of dirt and my glasses (and lots of other peoples stuff ) can fall into. You can't get it out! House keeping is hopeless the bed wasn't made some days, other days we had to ask for toilet roll and one day we had no towels at all in the room. The washbasin spills water out when you turn on the tap too hard. The room is gimmicky with mood light etc but the basics don't work that well. Breakfast is good but expensive at 14E.

Stayed here for 3 nights at the start of august. Hotel is located right next to Amsterdam zuid station which is 5 mins from schiphol airport on the train for around €3. The hotel has super friendly staff, is modern and made for the tech minded with self check in and a mood pad in the room to control everything. Rooms are small but plenty big enough for a city break. Beds are mega comfy and as previous reviews state you need to be 'very comfortable' with anyone you share with as shower and toilets are inside the room. Had TV with English channels, shower was amazing, shampoo, shower gel, hair dryer, desk with chair, 3 clothes hangers and no drink making facilities. However, a free drinks voucher was given on arrival which was a nice touch. Breakfast is €12 which is continental, free wifi and plenty of seating areas in the hotel lobby! Location is a little out of the centre but was nice to get away from the hustle and bustle which is only 10 mins on the number 5 tram stop located 2 min walk from the hotel, we got a GBV (tram and bus) 4 day ticket for €21. All in all I really liked this hotel but could see other people maybe finding faults on the room size, bathroom set up and location. I would definitely return.
