“Excelent stay, nice people!”
Reviewed 28 October 2011

We had a wonderful trip to Amsterdam in part due to a nice stay at BHV. The staff is kind and helpful, the breakfast is excellent and our room was very comfortable. The location is special, 200m from Leidseplein or 500m from Vondelpark. Wifi internet free (perfect use of Skype with videocall).

Very friendly welcome, small triple room (two singles and a double sofa bed) but you don't go to Amsterdam to party in your room. A bit of a mountain to 3rd floor, but room was clean and beds very nice. Great location and lovely breakfast. Nice welcoming feel, would stay again. For the money I was very pleased.

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at the Boutique Hotel View. The quiet canal location was perfect for walking to sights and restaurants, and was close to a tram stop as well. We had room 304 on the top floor which was a hike up steep stairs, but we do not mind stairs. We had a small room with a canal view through an iron grate. The bath was small, but had a decent shower. The room, although small had what we needed, reading lights, a room safe, a phone, a TV, desk and double bed with no line in the middle of the mattress. The linens were fine, though the towels were thin. The staff was very helpful, and the breakfasts were definitely worth 10 euros. In addition to cereals, breads, fruit, yogurt, cheese and ham, made to order omelets were offered, as well as the most delicious cheese filled pancakes. Upon the suggestion of the staff, we took bus 197 to Schipohl from a stop only one block away, and it was a bargain at 4 euros. This hotel was our refuge in busy Amsterdam, and we would recommend it.

Have just returned from a stay in this hotel. Upon our arrival we were asked if we would stay in the owners home (a couple of doors down) as it was not possible for us to have the two tripples that we had booked. Our party did not want to be split up and declined the offer. Instead we were issued with a double room (which I would describe as a small single) and a basement tripple room. The room in the basement should not be offered to guests. It was dark, dingey and there was a smell of mould. The toilet and shower area was gubby and by the time the (ripped) sofa bed had been pulled out there was little space left in the room. When we asked if we could be moved, we were told that this was not possible until the next day. When we were moved (which meant re-packing all our stuff) it was to a much more comfortable room, and the owner told us that she would 'sort us out a deal'. When we came to check out we were charged even more for the experience than we would have been should we have had our original 2 tripple rooms. The lady blamed the fact that one of our party had dropped out. This was no issue to us as we had wanted to retain the 2 tripples anyway and if the other member of the party had turned up there would have been no room for her in the hotel!!
Overall we were dissapointed at the way we were treated, the basement room should not be used to house guests and the fact that we ended up having to pay more for it than originally agreed soured the experience even more.
On the plus side, the beds were comfortable and the reception area is clean (although there are a couple of cats and a dog housed in the hotel). The loaction of the hotel is also excellent.
I would not describe this hotel as a 'boutique' hotel, more an average guest house.

Room Tip: Request not to be put in the basement

Natalie is the highlight. A great cook, friendly helpful service and willing to go out of her way to help. We felt taken care of, safe, well located, comfortable and would definitely come back and recommend this cute hotel to everyone.
Our request for a kettle was immediately addressed as was our need for a printer and a space for an adolescent visitor. They also gave great recommendations for meals, sights and routes. I have never had this service in a large 4 or 5 star hotel.

Room Tip: We had a quiet back room but the room with the balcony and view would be our first choice.

A group of us stayed in this Hotel (Guest house) we were given double rooms as triple rooms.
Two beds joined together with a sofa bed as the third bed. With the third bed laid out there was not enough room to get to the toilet as you had to climb over the sofa bed. This would have also proved dangerous if we needed to get out of the room in an emergency. The toilet smelt like a urinal. We could not sleep with the noise outside. Although this did not seem to be an issue for the rest of our party who were at the back of the building.
The double room offered contained a bed against a wall with only enough room at the side of the bed for one person to walk. We were moved to a different room when we complained.
This accommodation was not commensurate with the price paid, and when we challenged the manager/owner she was very unhelpful, We had booked three triple rooms and got two doubles and a single and she insisted on charging us for accommodation that she admittedly could not provide.

On the positive side the beds were comfortable and clean. The decor was modern and the location was ideal. I would not recommend this accommodation you could stay at a better class of hotel for the price.

My daughter and I were in Amsterdam for a week while I went to a medical conference. I wanted to stay in a location where my daughter could go to the museums while I was at my meeting. I couldn't have selected a better location. We were one block from the leidesplein, so plenty of restaurants, bars, shops, and dance clubs. We were on the tram line which made city travel easy. The hotel is clean and contemporary. Located on one of the canals, this picturesque hotel is a delight. Natalie, the owner, adeptly manages the reception desk AND makes breakfast. She is a wealth of information on the local spots and made our stay a lot of fun. We would definitely stay there if we visit again!

Room Tip: Just tell Natalie what you would like, close to the street, a good view, etc.
