Helpful staff, close to most attractions

Review of Acostar Hotel
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 12 Dec 2016via mobile
We stayed here for 2 nights and found the staff very helpful and the rooms clean and decent. I had been concerned after reading some reviews however, our experience was not a bad one!
Our room was 401 so there was quite a few flights of stairs to reach it but we just made it into a challenge (races anyone?!) And the noise from the club opposite did not bother us.
Overall we were very happy with our stay and would return!

Stayed beginning of Dec 2016. Wonderful & helpful staff - they really made our short stay better with all the info and recommendations we got! The location is great, right in the old city so very easy to get around by foot. Amsterdam is quite expensive in general and so was the room but at least we were within walking distance from all important areas (since we actually only had 2 full days in Amsterdam)

Room tip: Steep stairs - as most Dutch buildings as far as I understood (totally manageble though) so if you're not up for this try a lower level room

I had a good stay in the Acostar hotel. The location was great and within walking distance of everywhere I needed to go.
The room I stayed in was extremely small (tiny!) but the bed was comfortable and the bathroom was nice as well. The hotel is near a lot of shops, bars, and restaurants as well as tram/train stops about 2/3 minutes walking distance away.

The staff at the Acostar was always friendly and helpful but I did have one incident the first day in the hotel. I woke up from my nap to a man banging at my room door telling me to open it because they had to check my water. I wasn't informed of this by the hotel staff nor did I receive a call so I told the man out of the door that I wasn't going to open the door. He started banging on the door and yelling that I had to open the door for him to check the water because the water was poison this and I could die. Yes, this actually happened. I was freaked out and extremely upset about it. I called the front desk, and the man at the front desk told me that yes, the man at the door was authorized to come to my room to check the water and admitted that the man's approach was completely wrong and they should've called me to warn me first. The man at the front desk apologized profusely and all was well.

All in all, other than that incident I enjoyed my stay at the hotel (though I probably consider it more of a BB or upgraded motel) and it was affordable with a wonderful location, accessible to everywhere that I needed to go as a tourist.

I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel as it doesn't have the greatest score on trip advisor. They offer free tea and coffee at reception which was nice. No hair dryers in the room but I took my own anyway. Room was cleaned daily to a high standard and towels were changed. The bathroom was modern, clean and the shower was good. The room had a radiator we could control which was a bonus. The room and bathroom were small but worked for us. We were in room 306 so there is a lot of stairs to get to it but you're a bit further from the street which was good as it was a noisy area at night. Very central. Would recommend.

Hotel was not quite what I had expected when we first arrived. However, the staff are friendly and very helpful. They offer free coffee at the reception, which is relly nice. Do note that there is no lift in the upper floors. We had a little toddler and 3 bags, so that was quite a struggle. Thankfully, the staff helped us to carry 1 bag up.
Rooms are a little small but manageable.

After hours of searching for the best budget break we could find with limited dates available to us, we decided to book the Acostar Hotel. Overall a great stay here - rooms are small, but we didn't intend on spending much time in there so no problem. Room was surprisingly clean - having read other reviews I had prepared myself for the worst, and was pleasantly surprised. The bathroom had a nice shower always hot water available. The bed itself was comfortable and the covers very soft which was nice. No headboard which was a bit strange as the pillows could fall back! Heating also worked nicely to warm us up after a night out in the cold.

The hotel was easy to find and the man who checked us in was helpful and friendly. We arrived at around 1pm and were allowed to check in early, despite reading previous reviews our room was ready early which was great.

Steps to rooms (we were on the fourth floor) are steep and there are lots of them! Have read this in various other reviews so again was not surprised.

Hotel very centrally located, walking distance to everything including train station.

ONLY negative was the noise. Unfortunately we had a front facing room, noise from the bar opposite was very loud. We don't like to complain so put up with it as was only two nights. However if we returned I would not have a room at the front of the building.

Room tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel. I imagine this would be brilliant.
