Hen do

Review of Acostar Hotel
1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 18 May 2017via mobile
This is probably one of the worst places I have ever stayed! The rooms were terrible, no lights smelt funny doors broken! Just terrible! Would not recommend this to anyone! Stayed here for my hen do and the experience was poor! Had to move rooms twice because they were so bad! Hotel staff rude not helpful! Do not stay here

Dear Charlotte,

Thank you for the review.
You have reviewed this accomodation twice.
We upgraded the first day to the penthouse for free, even you booked the standard room.
The second day we moved you to the standard room. Even you were not satisfied with the penthouse.
Thank you for reporting and we do our best to satisfy our guest.

Regards, Liam

Myself and my partner stayed here for 3 nights. We were in room 502 which was lovely, decorated so well clean throughout. Right at the top of the hotel so a long walk up but hey you're in Amsterdam all the buildings are tall! So no complaints there and silly of those that have.
The staff were lovely, polite and helpful. When we arrived early on Kings day we were able to check in early as our room was ready.

The location is fantastic easy access to the numerous museums nearby, if you want to use the tram purchase your tickets from the front desk of the hotel and then a stop around the corner of the hotel.

I booked and paid in full more than 6 mos ago on Expedia for a trip in 06/17. As I was reviewing details, I clicked on the confirmation email and it advised that my refund is in process as the booking had been cancelled. Staff did not provide explanation to Expedia, and did not answer the phone when I called. I am travelling with my two underage children and it was pure luck that I clicked on that email. It would have been a huge problem arriving in AMS with two kids and having no hotel...do not book there if you don't want to be surprised and end up paying more money.

Dear Diana,

You booked the room in July 2016 for 29 June 2017. When you book a room, then you have to make sure there is sufficient funds on your creditcard. When we failed to make a pre-authorisation, we have to reject the reservation within 3 days.
In this case you will get a cancellation email from your agency. Now 8 months later you realised that your reservation is cancelled. And it is so not true that you have paid for, because then we are not allowed to cancel your reservation. If your room is paid, why should we cancel your reservation and it doesn't make any sense.

Regards, Liam

clean, very well situated with respect to museums and restaurants. Staff is courteous and efficient. This judgement is based on the room we occupied - we don't really know what the rest of the hotel is like.

Room tip: no elevator - stairs would have been difficult for us

Let's face it, if you're going for a city break, your hotel is the last place you're going to be spending time. After reading the reviews on here I was expecting something really grotty. We were pleasantly surprised. The room is very small, but if you're only sleeping in it we didnt mind. Beforehand we requested not to be too high up and we were put on 1st floor which was perfect. Staff are soooo lovely and helpful. Room was spotlessly clean and bathroom is nice. Yes it's a wet room, but just put the bath towel on to floor and you'll be fine... there's a tv with a good selection of channels and a wardrobe and bedside table. We had a street view and didn't find it too noisy at all.
Oh and fab location! Everywhere is within a 20 min walk and it's just off a high street with lots of shops. We walked from central station to the accommodation and it took 25 mins and was really easy. Would stay here again next time.

The hotel is in a great location and has really nice and friendly staff. The bulldog cafe is only 2 blocks up and there is lots of shops and restaurants around. The tram is right beside the hotel also. If you arrived before check in(3pm), staff are happy to take your bags and keep them safe, same when you check out (11am) and are not leaving until later that night. House keeping tidied our room and gave us fresh towels. You can also get a hairdryer with 10eur deposit at the front desk.

However, the rooms advertised on the hotels website look nothing like the actual rooms themselves. The room is very small which we did not mind, but every time we used the shower the bathroom would flood and one of the staff members told us to use a towel to block the water from spreading. There was also stains on the curtains and chips of paint on the walls. The bed isn't particularly comfortable but it is somewhere to sleep. The bed clothes were clean but did not seem it. The walls seem to be thin as well, as you can hear everybody moving around on your floor.

Please be aware that the room does not have a safe either. This hotel does not have a lift and the stairs are very steep and because the building is narrow the stairs feel like you're tilting backwards, so not ideal if carrying heavy luggage.

The hotel is situated on a noisy street, trams and bikes can be heard going up and down and some construction is going on and actually woke me up at 7am on a Sunday morning.

I enjoyed my trip in Amsterdam but was very disappointed with the standard the hotel provided, especially with the way it's advertised on their own site. If you are looking for somewhere to sleep that is in a good location this would be the place to stay.

Room tip: Avoid room 406
