My Partner and myself staued at the Wyndham Apollo Hotel in November 2013.
We had a fantastic stay, no faults what so ever!
We arrived and checked in which was very efficient, as we weren't directly in the centre of Amsterdam, the very helpful lady on check in helped us with a map and advised us how to get into the centre.
Our room was very spacious, very large comfortable bed. I ready reviews before we arrived, and I requested a newly refurbished room with canal view, and thats exactly what we got!

When going into Amsterdam Centre, it is a short stroll 5-10 monutes to the tram stop, there you can get the tram directly into the centre. We always got the tram number 5, as this was the most frequent. One night we decided to walk back to the hotel from the centre, this took approximately 45 minutes, however we were strolling!

We didn't eat at the hotel, so no comment on this I'm afraid.

Our room was cleaned on a daily basis to a perfect standard.

We will definately be reutning at some point this year.

Room Tip: Request a newly refurbished room with canal view.

I have returned to this hotel after a 2 year period. It will always be my number 1 hotel choice in Amsterdam as long as the hotel sets normal market prices like this visit. Unfortunately over last 2 years the hotel charges just sky rocketed. If the hotel price is set to market then this hotel should always be full.

We stayed in the Wyndham Apollo for a short break after New Years. We got the train from Schipol into Amsterdam Central and then tram route 5 to Apollolan which is the stop a short 2 minute walk to the hotel. Not at all too far out the way and we were really happy with the location as it is easily accessible into the centre of Amsterdam and all the attractions and the trams are great, they come every 5 mins or so. When we arrived at the hotel we had a nice welcome but our room was not as expected. A bit tired looking, very old décor and tattered furniture and we had a ground floor room which was quite dark, which looked onto the back of a wall. This was not what we were expecting as the hotel reception area is absolutely beautiful. When we did go tan complain that we were unhappy we encountered a very rude receptionist who told us that we would have to pay if we wanted a different room in the new section. She then told us "trust me, you dont want to go into the new section as you will get woken up at 7 in the morning with the contruction noise" - what is that all about? So people beware if your paying extra for a superior room because apparently you dont get any sleep! Wifi was terrible, we could only use it if we were standing at reception which is useless. You cant use it in your room as the signal dosent even pick it up.

Didn't ruin our trip to Amsterdam but it didn't add anything spectacular either. Overall, a disappointing but comfortable stay.

ApolloAmsterdam, General Manager at Apollo Hotel Amsterdam, responded to this review, 9 February 2014
Dear madam,

Thank you for taking time to share your comments about your stay in our hotel, the Wyndham Apollo Hotel Amsterdam.

I am sorry to hear to the stay did not meet up your expectations. The hotel has different room types. The difference between the room types is the outside view, the location of the room, the room size and the decoration. By upgrading yourself to a higher room catergory we can give you for example a nice view on the canal. Besides this I am happy that I can inform you that we have recently finished our renovation in the hotel, all our Executive Rooms are totally new decorated.
Your point of attention about the wireless internet has been discussed with our technical department.

I hope that Amsterdam fulfilled your expectations. I would enjoy to welcome to once more in the Wyndham Apollo Hotel Amsterdam.

Kind regards,

Peter Heule

Being our 1st time in Amsterdam we were a bit worried after reading some reviews that we would be too far out.......we should not have worried it is a 5 min tram rude from the tram stop which is 3 mins from the hotel. It was a positive that we were a little out the bustle . The hotel was great, clean well looked after, all the staff were very helpful and friendly nothing was too much trouble. They had left wine and fruit in room for my birthday a wonderful surprise. The wifi is quite slow but we didn't really need it.
Do not pay for taxi transfer as we had instructions from the hotel on transfer by public transfer which took us 40 mins and cost us less than 20 euros return. A good base in a great hotel
