“Location. Location. Location. Excellent Hotel!!”
Reviewed 28 July 2014

The Wyndham Apollo Is located at Apollalann where 5 Amsterdam Canals meet nestled in leafy suburbia close to Amsterdam Zuid rail station, just ten minutes from the Airport,( bus 65 picks you up outside the station and after only two stops drops you on the street corner opposite the Hotel.) The views from the rooms overlooking the canal basin are unforgettable, boats are constantly on the move 24/7 and rowers from the nearby Rowing Club ply their trade in the waters next to the Hotel Marina. The Hotel rooms are very comfortable, spacious, with a most comfortable of beds, modern decor, mini fridge and a safe. In the mornings treat yourself to the delicious buffet breakfast (Euro 22.50) but be prepared to to be pro-active as service is a bit hit and miss, if you take a table outside on the terrace the views of the canal boat traffic passing while you are having breakfast are priceless. The front desk staff are most helpful and they all possess excellent customer service skills and an array of local knowledge. The genteel Concierge Jacques is in a league of his own and may well one day be the General Manager such is his attention to his customers needs and his vast knowledge of all that is Amsterdam that he willingly shares with his guests. We were able to hire bikes from Jacques and cycle all over Amsterdam with our 8 year old daughter making use of the wide safe bike lanes snaking their way around the city and back again. On the horizon is the steeple of the nearby Church, if you walk over there past the Shell Gas Station you will find an Aldi General Store and a huge Albert Heijn Supermarket nearby. Trams 24 and 5 are a short walk away and they both make there way to Central Station via the Museum quarter. Location Location. Beatrix Park is just behind the hotel and you can actually walk through the park to Amsterdam Zuid railway station. The park has a very good play area for kids with a big paddling pool and is a must for families, try the ice cream at the Kiosk Cafe. In conclusion forget the negative reviews on here, the Wyndham Apollo is a very welcoming hotel, in a great location offering superior accommodation with a very customer friendly team Jacques, Victor, Linda and Natalie on the desk to see to your every need in the most efficient way. In fact I think Jacques is the epitome of a Concierge. One of the best I have come across, Mr General Manager take note!!
Like any hotel the Desk can get busy at check out times so why not pay a little extra and request a late check-out and avoid this inconvenience. My only gripe is that coffee pots are not on the breakfast table in the morning as soon as you sit down and that you have to seek out a waiter for this morning breakfast mainstay. Housekeeping services were excellent and when I spoke to Thomas on our floor he could not have been more helpful or more polite in his manner. Useful info;- Dutch people are the friendliest in the world, 24 hour Tram ticket Euro 7.50 for Adult and 2.50 for a child. Book your Canal Cruise, bikes scooters, or attraction tickets with the Concierge. If you want to see the bikini clad mannequin's in the windows just walk down Ruysdaelkade (2nd canal from hotel, left at Shell Garage) saves a walk into the Red Light District) we often passed on our bikes and we all got smiles from the nice ladies of the night as they plied there trade.

Room Tip: Pay the extra tariff for a Canal View Room you will not be disappointed.

Nice and quiet hotel not too far from important tourist sites. At the junction of 5 canals. Beautiful terrace near the water. We watched small boats pass by untill midnight on a nice summer evening.

I appreciate the staff courtesy...and the romantic view on the river that you can see both from the breakfast room and the restaurant one...to relax after an all-day city tour by bike. You can rent a bike or a scooter and you could have all kind of tourist information you need for a best trip in the city

Actually the hotel staff were pleasant, the location good and the room decent (though a bit dated). The issue was we had items that needed a fridge and the fridge the hotel gave us was broken. We only realized when the items perished. We had to throw everything away. The hotel said they would resolve the issue, recognized the fault, replaced the fridge, sent a manager to see what had perished and committed to replace it. But they didn't. On checkout they committed to email and follow up and they haven't. Disappointing follow up.
