“Nice hotel but bit generic and blah”
Reviewed 18 August 2014

We stayed here for 3 nights in August 2014. We had a double room which was very very spacious (we may have been upgraded) and bathroom very modern, clean with lovely bath. We would recommend this hotel on the quality of room, the level of cleanlinessness and proximity to the musuem quarter. The restaurant/bar also overlook a large canal which is very pleasant. What we would mark down on is that it doesn't have a lot of 'personality', is a bit naff looking on the outside and the bar had a very limited menu, and what was on offer was over-priced (salad nicoise 19 euros - very lovely, but too pricey for a salad). There is also a restuarant which we did not eat in, so choice may be better in that It's an all-round safe bet, bit far out of city centre but close to musuems, and maybe don't eat in the hotel unless you are a fan of overpriced food.

Room Tip: When we checked in the Reception told us we had been upgraded, at no extra cost. I have no idea why...

Along with my parents, my husband and I stayed here for two nights at the end of July 2014.
The beds were ultra comfortable and we had two very restful nights. The location of the hotel at the convergence point of 5 canals, gives an amazing vantage point and views. The outdoor seating over looking the water is perfect for any meal there and evening drinks.
The breakfast buffet is just fantastic!
Staff are very approachable, helpful, friendly and always have a smile for you.
We would stay here again

Room Tip: The room we stayed in was at the top floor and at the very end. So for my Mum who has slight mobilit...

Dear sir/madam,

Thank you for your review about your stay in Amsterdam. I am very happy to read you enjoyed your stay this much.

Starting the day with a healthy breakfast is a good start of the day, especially when you have a nice view on the canals around our hotel.

Your remarks are very much appreciated. I will share your feedback with the entire team.
It has been a pleasure to welcome you and we are looking forward to welcome you again as our guest!

Kind regards,

I booked this hotel on Agoda.com for 6 nights in August 2014. It was easy enough to get from the hotel from Schipol Airport (take the train to Station Zuid and switch to tram 5 and get off at Apollolaan stop).

I was greeted at the front desk by the very friendly and polite Victor who kindly upgraded us to an executive room facing the canal with a beautiful view! Thanks again for doing this for me!

Room was spacious, with a desk, flat screen TV (with BBC 1 and 2 among other channels) and air-conditioning (a rarity in European hotels). Bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was clean and big (photos attached). In-room Wifi is a bit spotty and slow but it did work most of the time.

The hotel itself is in a quiet, leafy suburb south east of the city but within 15 minutes walking distance of Museumplein (to get to Riksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum). I didn't eat in the hotel, so can't comment on the food.

I easily recommend this hotel for first time travelers to Amsterdam/Holland looking for good quality at a reasonable price.

One warning though: when you check out, you will be charged with a City Tax of 5% per night based on the room rate charged on each night. I didn't know this until the end, fortunately I had enough Euros to cover this unforeseen cost (it's collected by the hotel to pay the government).

Recommendations for fellow travelers:

1) Get the Holland Pass from the excursions operators in front of the Riksmuseum - which will get you "gold and silver vouchers" for free and discounted entry to Rijks, VG, Heineken Brewery Experience, Rembrandthuis, Canal Cruise and free unlimited tram travel for 48 hours. This is a major saving!

2) Kitchens across Amsterdam close at 10.30p.m. (the hotel kitchen included) so I recommend getting to a dinner location early!

3) Similarly, museums open at 10.30a.m. or 11a.m. and close at 5.30p.m. - you may spend all of that in just one museum, so allow plenty of days to see everything without getting rushed.

4) If you're a Beatles fan - walk straight down Apollolaan to get to the Amsterdam Hilton Hotel to see Room 702 (it's where John Lennon & Yoko Ono held their famous "bed-in" to protest the Vietnam War)

Room Tip: Ask at the front desk if an upgrade to a room facing the canal is possible.

Despite this hotel not being we still had an amazing time. The hotel staff were always happy to help, the room was really spacious and had a senseo coffee machine and good selection of teas, not enough milks but we were given more quickly after our request. I would definitely suggest a canal side room, such a delight waking up to the pretty view after a day strolling round the busy city!
Hotel is only half an hour from the airport, we took the train to Amsterdam Zuid station then tram 5 to the hotel. If you turn right out of the hotel and walk for 5 minutes you are in the trendy De Pijp area. I would certainly come here again!

We had a very niece stay at the Wyndham. It is very well located near restaurants and in walking distance to the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum and the Anne Frank House.

The rooms were a good size and comfortable. Our plan came with a nice breakfast. Perfect for tourists needing limited service. It does try to be in the Ritz Carlton or Peninsula class. It is a good four star hotel at a reasonable price - a very good value..
