Spent 4 nights in a top floor room with a spa bath and great walk in shower. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in. Berry and Marcel couldn't do enough for us organising tickets for the tulip fields and recommending some very good restaurants. Their knowledge of local transport was excellent and as we were only 5 minutes walk from central station getting around was easy. Went on the train to Harlem ( 25mins) which is well worth a visit, old town with lots of character. Breakfast was continental with a big choice meats, cheeses, fabulous fresh bread etc.

Can't say enough about this quirky small hotel. We were greeted by Berry who after checking us in ,carried 2 ,40 lb suitcases up 2 flights to our courtyard room. The room was charming with a very comfortable bed, barber chair and street light painted on wall.My favorite item was a large spa bath tub which was amazing after our long treks around the city and the 2 flight climb to our 2nd floor room. The hotel is ideally located only a 5 minute walk to the main train station. There is train service from Schipol airport which saves time and money. As we headed to Paris,by train next ,we just walked back to station and took train to Paris. The breakfasts were ample with a little extra each day, pancake, scrambled eggs and fresh fruit and yogurt. The hosts were very helpful, getting online tickets for museums. And yes,Marcel did carry those heavy bags down!!loved our stay there, would highly recommend, but only if you're in shape to walk up a curved steep staircase!!

I can't add a lot to previous positive reviews. An excellent stay at an inn with a ton of character. We stayed in a 3rd floor courtyard view double which had plenty of room and a very nice bathroom. Comfortable bed and all necessary amenities. The owners, Berry and Marcel, are terrific, accomodating, and helpful. And yes, I'll parrot the spiral stair climbing challenge, but once I figured out how to stay on the side with the wide treads, it worked fine for my old knees ; ) Really convenient location a block away from the train station and most trams. And within walking distance to a host of great small restaurants and other entertainment including the famous red-light district. I'd definitely go back!

We stayed here in March of this year having read the encouraging reviews on Trip Advisor.
We booked a room with a "canal view" and would definitely recommend this as it added to our stay considerably. With Mauro Mansion being situated in a typical canal-side house, obviously any room with a view also involves climbing the steep, narrow stairway, but we felt the view was worth the extra physical exertion!
The rooms are very clean and well maintained; the bathroom was spotless. The breakfast was European "buffet" style (cereals, excellent fresh breads, cheese, ham etc with fresh juice each day) but Berry also provided a freshly prepared "extra" on a daily basis (scrambled egg one day, pancakes another day etc).
The hosts Berry and Marcel gave us helpful advice and information regarding restaurants, attractions etc and are able to print out tickets for you for some of the main attractions to enable you to avoid the queues.
The location of Mauro Mansion is fairly central and meant that we were able to walk to all the main sights. They were a couple of excellent restaurants within a 10-minute walk. If you are put off by the fact that the Red Light District is nearby to the hotel, don't be; we walked around the area at night (as you do!) and the atmosphere was "vibrant" - not at all threatening with families also walking around. Not at all seedy as some might suspect.
We have given 4 stars - the only reason we didn't give 5 stars was that the room would have benefited from having some comfortable chairs (it had a swing chair, which was great, but other seating was lacking) and due to our room facing the canal, there was a fair bit of noise from passers by at night. Other than that, a great stay in a great location.

The Mauro Mansion would be rated "Excellent" were it not for the Canal House Stairway to reach a canal-view room. All Canal Houses must adhere to the guidelines, therefore you must be a mountain goat to stay there. However, the ambiance of staying there is worth the pain (in my case...arthritic knees) endured. Not only did we have the view of the canal, but we experienced the smell of cannabis at nearby "Coffee Houses" and the red lights down the street of a Lady of the Night. Owners Marcel and Berry live onsight, so you almost feel like you are staying at someone's home. The breakfasts were typical European, with Berry usually preparing some type of bonus delight. Their presence and knowledge of the neighborhood were extremely helpful. Each room is furnished differently, and the owners use "honor bars" for just about anything consumable. Again...just like home.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms are available, but lack the view of the canal, and are subject to more noise (sin...

Mauro Mansion is a lovely quirky Bed & Breakfast hotel in a quiet position as central as you can get in Old Amsterdam. Clean and large rooms, with very comfortable beds. An excellent cold breakfast is provided in a fun reception room, which is also open all day for coffees, guide books, free DVDs, and on-tap advice from Berry and Marcel. Overlooking a quiet canal, 5 minutes walk from Central Station and the main tram station, nothing is more than about 15 minutes stroll away! Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Worth getting a room at the front for the canal view

We had a nice stay at Mauro Mansion, a perfect place to relax.

The room was really spacious and quiet, with an old barbers chair, it was so cool!

Everything was perfect with a romantic view on the canal and we also found free welcome drinks in our fridge and chocolate on the bed!

The owners are very friendly and helpfully.
The breakfast was excellent and every morning they cooked an 'extra' ( the pancakes were delicious!).

Great location, so close to the heart of Amsterdam and the Central Station.
In few minutes you can find restaurants, coffeshops and everything you need.

Highly recommend, we loved this place!

Room Tip: Choose a canal room, it's quiet and romantic
