Description: Finding an Irish pub in the centre of Amsterdam as true as Hoopman is a difficult task. Hoopman offers a broad selection of Irish whiskeys, stouts and draughts. As well as Irish drinks, Hoopman offers a great selection of pub grub. Above all our Irish staff will always give you a feeling like you are at home. Hoopman is situated on Het Leidseplein in the bustling centre of Amsterdam where you will find that Hoopman serves as a warm and cosy haven from the busy streets. In the winter you can take shelter for a warm drink inside and in the summer you can refresh yourself with a cool drink on our terrace. Hoopman organizes a ton of events over the year. We always show all main sport events on our screen, from the 6 nations' rugby to the Champions league's soccer. Saint Patrick's Day is celebrated every year with a big party where we have Irish dancers to perform traditional dances throughout the evening. Hoopman is always decorated for special days, on Halloween everything is covered in webs and for Christmas we are covered in lights and surrounded by Christmas trees. Hoopman is sure to give you a good feeling: whether you are Irish or not, our staff will certainly give you a warm Irish welcome to Amsterdam!

“Bullies selling Magners Cider”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 August 2014 via mobile

This place tried to bully us to pay for a Magners cider that was flat. At the waiter's suggestion, we tried it (as he told us that others had previously complained) and we rejected it as being of inferior quality. The manager came back with the waiter and was very very intimidating and we felt very threatened as he loomed over us in a menacing way, arguing that, as we has been told in advance that it was of inferior quality, we should have accepted it. It was also VERY VERY expensive. We had considered eating here but the behaviour of the manager put us off. I have written to Magners also

“You could write a book of Irish jokes about this place!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 August 2014

Firstly I guess I should say that the food was remarkably good. Fish and chips, Beef and Guiness pie, and a selection of desserts, all without fault.

The main problem was the menu, which could have been from a different restaurant altogether. One of us ordered Heineken because it was on the list of beers in the menu, only to be told "we don't sell Heineken here." So an alternative beer was ordered. 3 of us ordered traditional Dutch Pea Soup from the menu, only to be told: "we only have pea soup in winter". Then the waiters seemed unsure of what was on the "fixed price theatre menu".

So a nice enough meal, but you might have to play a game of guessing what is on the menu first!

“Nice manager”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 June 2014

The Irish manager was lovely and let us watch the footy on TV that we wanted. It got very crowded later. decent proces. However, when we paid 50 euros we were given change from 20. We did get it back and an apology but I always wonder when that happens.

“Fun night out”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 May 2014 via mobile

This is a pub in one of the squares in Amsterdam. You'll have plenty of places to choose from, but we recommend this one. The staff was friendly, and the food was good. We don't think you could go wrong here for drinks or food.

“Nightime drink”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 May 2014

In the middle of Leidseplein (Leiden Square) with heated seating areas outside in the middle of the Square you are surrounded by numerous ubs offering food and drink. Staff are friendly and helpful - prices reasonable for the area.
