“Yes yes yes”
Reviewed 20 November 2013

Damrak is one of the most beautiful places in an already overwhelmingly beautiful city! There is so much going on here it's hard to take it all in. Fortunately, due to its location, we ended up passing through quite a few times and each time we noticed something we hadn't seen previously. The people of Amsterdam are, without question, some of the friendliest people I have come across in my life. If you get the opportunity, you must go and see it.

“Tourist hell”
Reviewed 10 October 2013

Ok, dear tourist, welcome...as a local, this is probably the first street you see if you arrive by train at Amsterdam CS (tip 1: do not take a taxi there, you will be seriously overcharged, ..so take a tram). Well, it is also the ugliest street I guess. Apart from a couple good four stars hotels and clothing store C&A, there is not much here for you. Avoid the restaurants, avoid the budget hotels, ...trust me, no local ever goes here to eat.

“The main street in Amsterdam”
Reviewed 4 September 2013

There are many shops, restaurants, and stores along the Damrak. We didnt see any authentic Dutch restaurants, but a lot of Steak houses.

We did buy discounted HOHO Bus and Canal tours along the Damrak and used a currency exchange as well. There is a very popular French Fries retalier that had long line ups. We tried it and it was OK, nothing that would knock your socks off. The next street behind it was much better for shopping and restaurants.

Damrak is the first main street that you see when you come of out Centraal Station.

“Avoid”
Reviewed 7 August 2013

Ugliest part of Amsterdam with poor restaurants/shops along this road. Just avoid this dumpy area and the rest of Amsterdam is spectacular!

“Don't let this deter you”
Reviewed 20 July 2013

This will be your first view of the city if you head down from Centraal Station, don't let it deter you! This is a wonderful city but this street is everything that is wrong about it: cramped, dirty and tacky. I'm pleased we saw this after the wonderful city.
