“Busy busy busy”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 August 2014 via mobile

So many people, so many cycles, so much going on. Never a dull moment here with variety if street performers to entertain, benches to sit and watch the ever changing scene from and striking architecture as well.

“A great meeting place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 August 2014

Dam Square,, is a town square in Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands. Its notable buildings and frequent events make it one of the most well-known and important locations in the city.
On the west end of the square is the neoclassical Royal Palace, which served as the city hall from 1655 until its conversion to a royal residence in 1808. Beside it are the 15th-century Gothic Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) and the Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum. The National Monument, a white stone pillar designed by J.J.P. Oud and erected in 1956 to memorialize the victims of World War II, dominates the opposite side of the square. Also overlooking the plaza are the NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky and the upscale department store De Bijenkorf. These various attractions have turned the Dam into a tourist zone.
The Dam derives its name from its original function: a dam on the Amstel River, hence also the name of the city. Built in approximately 1270, the dam formed the first connection between the settlements on the sides of the river.

“Very busy”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 August 2014

Close to the center of the city. Dam Square you will probably see as you stroll around in this great attraction. If you want to sit and relax for awhile than this is an ideal spot. Cafés and bars are in abundance and the prices are about equal to other districts in the city. Can get very busy so be aware. We also enjoyed to sit and watch the amazing number of bicycles passing by.

“Great for Shopping”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 August 2014

I did not have the chance to visit the royal palace, wax museum, or the church, but the view looked quite lovely. There was always street performers, so that was quite entertaining. Overall though, my shopping experience was fantastic. I found this chocolate store that served wonderful coco truffles and banana cream chocolate. I also fell in love with this store that had a fantasy setting on one level and an Asian themed second story level. I also browsed a lot of clothing windows and the fashion looked great! I think someone will find something to love in this square!
