Well worth the time to visit this small museum to actually feel what life was like living in an affluent canal house.

Worth the hour if you have that third or fourth day in Amsterdam and have the card for free admission. Also visited the Van Loon which is in the same general area. Sort of hard to believe people actual lived in such a formal way with all the servants.

Much to see and well presented. Access a bit difficult because of steps but worth the effort. Short visit therefore good to go on the weekend when multiple gardens and houses are open.

We went to see this house after visiting the more well known Van Loon and expected something slightly less impressive but how wrong we were-it is stunning and so well worth a visit. The gardens are delightful too.

House museums aren't for everyone. Some people look at each room in such places and are gone in half an hour but if you love furniture, china, period design, and jewel -type gardens this is a great place to go. Spend time in each room and you will be rewarded with a type of time travel experience when wealthy families lived in such houses in Amsterdam. This place is larger than it appears from the outside. You'll see everything from the public rooms to the private bedrooms and even the kitchens (in the basement). The rooms are set up as if they were just being prepared to be used. The gardens, consisting of low hedges and decorative stone are pretty. Videos of the home's history are also shown so you have a good idea of the house's past lives.
