I've been staying at the Grand for many years, but since their recent renovations I stay nowhere else. There are centrally located near the Dam. Their concierge service is top rated...use them for passes to the Van Gogh Museum. While in town don't miss the recently updated Rijkesmuseum. If you get a chance try the small but good Blaux aan de Wal restaurant, if you can get in!

Traveling Europe with a child in wheelchair can have it's difficulties. The beautiful Sofitel not only has the absolute perfect location to see any and every site in Amsterdam, but made sure it went smoothly for our family of four. Arriving after a long cruise we added an extra night in Amsterdam and through my miscommunication they did not have the connected rooms i needed. the front desk staff made a quick fix and we had the perfect rooms and they gave us a great recommendation for lunch. The rooms are modern and spacious and my family wished we were staying more than one night!

We were three friends having a lunch before visiting the city and we will definitely come back !
First, the place is grandiose and beautiful. The smell is enjoyable ! The place is in the center of the city but hidden from the busy noise so you can enjoy some calm. The welcome is great, they take your coat and the staffs are nice and smiling. We ordered 3 courses and the waiter gave us a lot of advises and explications about the dishes.
Once the food coming, we couldn't believe how fine and delicious it was. The fish was perfectly prepared and the presentation was amazing ! We had to felicitate the chef and thanks the kitchen for this nice moment. definitely one of the best restaurant in Amsterdam !

Indeed our inner garden is one of the best kept “secrets” of the city, where you can enjoy a quiet moment away from the busy city centre.

We are delighted that you enjoyed the cuisine by our Michelin star awarded Executive Chef, Joris Bijdendijk and we are thrilled too to see that you named our restaurant Bridges, inspired by Ron Blaauw one of the best restaurants of Amsterdam !

We sincerely hope you will visit us again in the near future.

My wife and I had the pleasure of celebrating our anniversary at the Sofitel Legend Grand. It is an old hotel that has been refurbished throughout and is very comfortable, even luxurious. We were upgraded to a junior suite that was sensational. Spacious and well appointed. Bathroom was exquisite. Service is excellent throughout the hotel, as you would expect (and demand) from an establishment as established (and pricey) as this one. Staff was enormously helpful, efficient, responsive and friendly. We were not disappointed. The hotel was everything we could have expected and more. If we have occasion to be in Amsterdam in the future, we would stay there again.
Hotel is close to the red light district and to "coffee shops." But this was not a problem at all. The hotel is on the quieter edge of this area and, further, the hotel has an enormous front gate and courtyard that are well monitored by very professional and discreet staff. I was enormously impressed by the professionalism of the entire staff.
In addition, there is a large, very comfortable outdoor interior courtyard for drinks and light meals that was wonderful.

the hotel is in the great location and with excelent staff. the building is nice but nothing special. I like the guy who take a guest for breakfast sitting. always smile good mood and even remember a details of the guests. not only regular even me. breakfast was very good, multiple choices, fresh and tasteful. the room nothing special; nice, clean but average as many other rooms in a hotels.
so, I support anybody idea to go there and enjoy but do not expect something overspecial because of the price and the name.

Perfect location in the center of the historic district of Amsterdam. The Grand is on a quiet street but is very close to all of the action. The service was efficient, polite & friendly. They brought a small chilled bottle of champagne to our room upon arrival to congratulate us on our 20th wedding anniversary. I think they gave us a slight room upgrade as well, it was beautiful, with high ceilings, a canal view, and every amenity. Plenty of room to move around and stash luggage. There was even a tv mounted in the wall for viewing while taking a bath. We loved the complimentary Nespresso in the room, a somewhat rare amemity in Europe. There was a separate, very nice shower, and a fogged glass door for privacy for the toilet. The bed was king size, with an excellent mattress and very nice crisp white linens. I did not need to order extra pillows as they provided 4 very nice ones. The hotel was quiet, even though the building is very old. The only reason I didn't give them a 5 for cleanliness was because the room needed to be dusted more thoroughly. There were some glass shelves in the coffee area with light shining through, which made the dust easy to see. Otherwise, the room was very clean. We had dinner at their restaurant Bridges, and it was amazing. We will absolutely return to the Sofitel Grand.

Room Tip: Request a room with a canal view on a higher floor, or a courtyard view if you want total quiet. Ou...

From the moment you enter the grand courtyard entrance you feel like a visiting dignitary. Situated between two of Amsterdam's canals you have the feel of Amsterdam everywhere you look. The staff is both friendly and helpful with any assistance you may need during your stay. Coffee shops, red light district and Dam Square are all within walking distance. Highly recommend!
