“Overwhelming experience”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

Pre-booked tickets to this museum and so glad I did as the queue was quite long as we fast tracked to almost the front. We went on a Friday and was told it stayed open until 10pm. I absolutely loved the whole experience. The layout is on the ground and three further floors all accessible by lift and stairs. It tells the whole story of Vincent's life; all write ups are in Dutch & English but there are audio guides in other languages. I thought I knew quite a lot about him but found that there was far more to this wonderfull but troubled artist. Even if you're not into museums and art, just to see some of the great paintings he did you know you are witnessing something really special. By the way some of the pictures I saw I had never heard of so it was a real treat. This was a first time visit to Amsterdam and when I return I will definitely visit this museum again

“How could you not be moved?”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

The largest collection of his work, the Van Gogh is well displayed and intelligently described. The pieces are breathtaking...and they go on and on.

Get there early to avoid the crowds...we arrived 15 minutes before opening and had no wait and an uncrowded experience. Buy the museum card if you will visit 4 or more museums--the best deal if you have no desire to spend your time on tour busses, canal boats, or beer tours. The card helps by avoiding the longer lines.

“For Van Gogh Fans”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

Yes, we've seen some of his best paintings at other museums, but this is a must for art lovers. More Van Gogh can be seen here than in any other one place. You will see one of his signed Sunflowers and The Potato Eaters along with Wheatfield With Crows among other iconic masterpieces. Do buy your timed ticket online to avoid the queues and don't be afraid to look at the paintings in your own order rather than waiting behind others.

“Loved this museum”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

I really enjoyed the Van Gogh museum. It traces his development from being a run of the mill painter (though a very good one) to what he became famous for. Lots of interesting information through the audio guide and I think the museum was well laid out. I strongly recommend making your reservations online and doing so a few days before going to the museum as you'll avoid the lines.
